December 10, 200421 yr Hi Jim, that looks like a SiS chipset. Unfortunately I know nothing about them. Just a guess, the two CPUs are shown because Hyperthreading(HT) is enabled? Generally, when setting up the OS, drivers etc, it's recommended to install the display drivers after everything else, including the monitor's. Basicly: Install OS, update the OS to latest possible state (SPs and other updates), then install the drivers -more or less- in this order: Mainboard (IDE, etc), USB, soundcard, network, monitor, display adapter. What I do too (call it fool-proof!), is install DX before all the drivers and again, once all the driver installs are completed. Case you have one harddrive, put everything in one big partition in their default directories and perhaps make a smaller partition for backups only. IMHO, don't run FS off multiple partitions on the same drive. Good luck and kind regards Jaap OT/PS: By any chance, is your dad a professor at the Amsterdam university?
December 10, 200421 yr Have you tried another monitor on your computer? If the screen goes blurry after a while then thats telling me that the monitor is starting to die. The other option is to turn down the brightness and contrast a bit and see if that sharpens the image up.Frit
