Is your joystick plugged into the USB ports on the back of the computer? Those ports are usually best to plug a joystick in as opposed to using the USB ports on the front.

Gregory,

There has been a lot, and I mean a lot, of discussion about this problem.  Here's a link on AVSIM which is now very lengthy.

When I got my Windows 8 computer I had a lot of disconnect problems too.

Do you have the payware FSUIPC?  If so, my recommendation is to configure your joysticks with it.  For me, it has solved all my disconnect problems.  I created my own little instructions (doc) on how I did it.  And, there is another guide:  fsuipc-guide-v1.pdf too, which I have also.  I also have another program called FSXAssist which I bought a couple of months ago, that's supposed to solve the problem.  Well, since I use FSUIPC, I haven't installed FSXAssist.
