Building shadows - Cast and Receive

Featured Replies

I presumed that when you have Receive off, other buildings wouldn't be able to cast windows on other buildings. But they do, even with Receive off. I only have Cast on and see shadows on other buildings. Not that I mind but I wonder if I am misunderstanding the Receive option...? But I don't think that's the case because for instance the Plane receive and Terrain receive options do what I expected: they show no shadows on them if Receive is off.

Maybe a little bug...?

I noticed it too.

Also, I was actually surprised at how good of performance I was still getting with those shadows on with my modest GTX 760.

Maybe its 'you' receiving the shadows. When I flew under tower bridge with receive off I didn't get a shadow going under the bridge. With it on, you got the shadow passing by in the cockpit. This could be it but I may be completely imagining it.

No, that makes it sound as if Receive only has to do with the plane which isn't the fact. If you turn on Building shadows but turn off Terrain shadows Receive, you will not see any shadows on the ground. So the Receive part concerns whatever is in front of it (Vegetation, Buildings, etc.) If you want to see shodows on the terrain, you HAVE to turn in the Terrain Receive option.

I do think that somehow there is a bug which causes the Buildings Receive option to be always (unticked or not) on whenever Cast is on. Not that I care because performance is good but I'm just curious. ^_^
