December 18, 200421 yr Hello everyone http://www.ifdg.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/bye.gifThis may sound like a silly question but....Are there any rules about posting wingview lines (to add to the panel.cfg) in this & other FS9 forums in general?Because in a way they are a slight alteration to the original panel.cfgSo for example if you wanted to post some wingviews for a MelJet 777 do you have to get written permission from the MelJet designers to post them.Just asking because I have some nice wingviews I made that I would like to share with all of you on here butI dont want to step on any toes so I thought Id check first!Thanx! :)
December 19, 200421 yr Nice of you to check, and I can't answer definatively, but unless you signed or agreed to a non-disclosure, or license that specifically stated it, I don't think there are any limits on in-game screenshots.I highly doubt Meljet would mind anyway, especially if you had positive feedback.
December 19, 200421 yr I don't think he is talking about screenshots, I think he is talking about modifications to the panel config file, along these lines:[VCockpit02]file=Cessna_172_Panel_Decals.bmpsize_mm=512,512pixel_size=512,512texture=$C172s_2background_color=0,0,0Except having to do with Wing View locations. And I am not sure, but all he is doing is changing numbers to get a different view, right?Regards,Joe CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.
December 19, 200421 yr ahhh, sorry. I don't think the config file is any thing that can be copyrighted, as there is nothing proprietary about it. If it were art, then yes it could- that is what I thought you were talking about.
December 19, 200421 yr Author Commercial Member Howdy, first off, kudos for asking these questions before uploading! Here's my take on your question:If all you want to do is distribute your own wingviews with written instructions on how to alter the panel.cfg of the respective plane then you don't need permission. However, if you're planning on including the altered panel.cfg file with your upload then you DO have to ask for permission BEFORE doing so because the panel.cfg is part of the original package and thus included in the distributor's copyright (and don't forget to give credit for the permission in your read-me).It's easy to believe that those tiny cfg files are not a major part of an aircraft release but, in fact, some of those cfg files can contain many hours of work.Looking forward to the wingviews package!Cheers, Holger
December 19, 200421 yr If all you want to do is distribute your own wingviews with written instructions on how to alter the panel.cfg of the respective plane then you don't need permission. Here is another view, you certainly should ask our of RESPECT to the developer. It's not always about laws and restrictions, some guys will appreciate it more than you know. There was one guy who had the nerve to upload ORIGINAL BITMAPS from the PMDG NG 800-900 right on Avsim! And the KICKER was he did not even give CREDIT to pmdg for the work!Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J. December 19, 200421 yr christianholmes, Sonar5, Holger & crvm - Thanx for replying friends :)Sorry I should have been clearer! I wont be mentioning or uploading anyones altered panel.cfgAll I want to do is post lines like this (with the relevant numbers of course hee hee!) that you all can insert into your panel.cfg:---------------------------------------------VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_EYE=VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_DIR=VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_EYE=VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_DIR=VIEW_RIGHT_EYE=VIEW_RIGHT_DIR=VIEW_LEFT_EYE=VIEW_LEFT_DIR=VIEW_REAR_EYE=VIEW_REAR_DIR=---------------------------------------------I have already uploaded a small file to Avsim that has iFDG A319,A320 & A321 wing views. I asked permission to use the name "iFDG" in the file name on the iFDG forum & they said I could so yay! But I did that without knowing if it was necessary - and thats why I asked this question on here :)Of course - I would always acknowledge the hard work of the people who created the aeroplane Im making wing-views for. Beleive me with all the excellent freeware planes I have, I do not take them for granted!Thanx again for the replies!!!! If its ok to just post them then I got some coooooooool YS-11 wingviews to share with all of you! Made them just last night! Will wait to see your replies!
December 19, 200421 yr Author Commercial Member Howdy,If we're talking AFG's YS-11 then please do upload those wingviews; she is one of my favorite aircraft!!!Cheers, Holger
