Windows 8.1 Full Screen Mode

Recommended Posts

Am I the only one who is unable to run FSX in full screen mode with ANY addons?  I cannot start any addons without my PC going into windowed mode automatically.  When I press alt+enter, I get a black screen, or I am able to interact with the add on but not FSX.  In windowed mode everything works perfectly.  I played with my graphics card (gpu and cuda) options but nothing is working.  It's simply annoying.  For instance, FSCopilot uses a radio tool.  I am able to use the tool, but the moment I click on anything within FSX, the radio tool disappears behind the window.  I am using a single screen as of now and applied single screen settings in my Nvidia settings but it didn't help.  I didn't have this problem with any other platform prior to windows 8.  Are any of you out there also using Windows 8.1 and FSInn/FSCopilot WITHOUT this issue?  Please help.  I suppose I can settle with the windowed mode, but I shouldn't have to.  Thanks for any ideas you can offer.

If you cannot go into full screen mode using alt-enter, then it is most likely your video card was not installed properly (reinstall the drivers or go back to a previous version) or your settings are too high.  Also make sure you have the highmemfix=1 in the Graphics section of your FSX.cfg.  For FSInn/FSCoPilot problems, you should post those problems in the VATSIM forum.

There is a known problem with a CTD or black screen if using FSInn/FSCoPilot and SquawkBox.  When you are running the program internally, there is a bug when you receive a private message and FSX freezes, goes black, and crashes.  You have to go to their website to look for any possible fixes.

Make sure required Microsoft.net Framework Packages are installed and up-to-date - The appropriate Microsoft.net Framework packages are normally installed when you first install FSX/Acceleration/P3D and commercial add-on programs if the appropriate package is not found.  You will need versions 1.1 through the latest. You can see what versions are installed by going to your Windows Explorer and look for Windows/Microsoft.net/Framework/(then the versions installed). Once the packages are installed, Windows Update will periodically update the packages.  You can verify whether your versions are properly installed and up-to-date by using the .Net Framework Setup Verification Tool User's Guide.  Microsoft.net packages are used by developers to make sure the program runs in the way they intended, including memory management. The packages are, for the most part, not backward compatible.

I also had this Problem (on my win8.1). I couldnt change into full screen mode, but a Friends Told me this is a normal FSX Problem with some graphic cards. I searched a bit on the internet and I found a freeware called "FS SimTimizer". That program changes a few Problems in FSX, also the fullscreen Problem. Furthermore, You will have a new camera system, most likely as You would have with EZDok. But you can turn the Camera system off if you want. A must have in my opinion.
