oh oh! I think I messed up my "simple" clouds textures!

Featured Replies

I have no idea what I did, (Of course I did not back up my textures), when I downloaded one of the cloud frame rate improvement packages from AVSIM. Don't ask me which one lol.. sorry...But my problem isn't the 3d clouds, they look fine, the problem is when I go to simple clouds now I see big white blocks!! Any ideas??Jeff

Hi, You probably downloaded a broken files from x authors since fsw do not replace simple clouds mode.To be safe, I recommend to re-install All default fs2004 cd Fs2004 CD 2 MSGAME3.CAB to be sure you don't have any problems from thermal scenery as well, I have helped this issue for 2 user's on another forum, the files came from another x authors that's broke these big white box on top of scenery.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs

Thanks for the reply! If I re-install all files from the MSGAMES3.CAB will I have to re-install any 3D files again?I'll give it a try.ThanksJeff

Personally I found that for low powered rigs like mine, the DXT3 cloud textures found in the HiFPSv2.zip file seem to work really well. I can run 100% 3d clouds, at short distance (30 miles??? pretty far anyway), even on my Pentium 3 rig!

Hi Chris,I am just curious, because I work in a computer graphics related field. Why are clouds such a bandwidth problem in FS9? I would think that creating a cloud digitally would not be that taxing on the CPU and the Video card due to the seeming simplicity of the clouds ( i.e not much detail vs other types of graphic diplays like scenery, AI traffic, etc...

I would like to know the same thing. When I have 3D clouds on, it just kills my frame rates. I can max out all the other graphics settings without problems.Jeff

Has to be bad code, even my 6800gt loses it when the clouds come close. However a complex scenery like a fully textured apt. loaded with ac is no prob??? Boggles the mind....someone please explain...I love/hate fsclouds.
