Aircraft textures change

Featured Replies

im using FS9 i upgraded my Widows XP from service pack 2 to 3, and since then all my aircraft textures have changed. Not the livery as such, but the wings and flap areas, the elevators as well have changed colour- very weird! Even the sun reflection on the aircraft does not seem to show on the right side of the plane.

Help will be apreciated. Charles.

The update from XP sp2 to sp3 would not change anything  within FS9. What may of happened is that the upgrade may have messed up your graphics display driver as it interacts with Windows XP and possibly DX9.xxx. You may need to update your driver. Check in your FS9 GUI menu and make certain FS9 is set to use 32 bit colors not 16 bit.

Let us know if any of that helps and what kind of graphics card you use, we'll go from there.

Hi Mel,thanks for your help, i have an Nvidia gts 240 and i think it could be needing an update, the driver at the moment is 327.23-desktop-winxp-32bit but i may not have installed it correctly, could you help me there? I believe you have to uninstall old drivers first that im not too sure of.

Thanx again,

Charles.

sorry forgot to add where do i find the FS9 GUI menu?

My guess is also the drivers.  I've noticed , and others have too, that the newer drivers cause this problem.  I'm not using your GPU so I don't want to be too specific, but you may want to try one of the older drivers.  The most stable drivers I've found for FS is the 314.22 driver.  Using anything past 320.xxx, I've seen the same problem on my system.
Hope this helps you.
Cheers.

It is also my understanding and practice to uninstall the driver first, . . . especially when / if reverting to an older driver. It is a good practice to always remove drivers for anything before updating when it is at all possible. IMHO anyway. As Jeff wrote, the latest and greatest drivers are not always the best or don't work as hoped. I use a GTX280 and have stayed with driver version 185.85 for years (obviously!). I dread the idea of going hit or miss while trying newer until I find one that works as well with my system.

If you decide to roll back to a older driver let us know that and what you have found as a replacement. Consider that being very thoughtful and careful about this is important. During the uninstall process you will be required to choose what to remove. For instance in my install of 185.85 there were several other additional sets of drivers for my net card, raid array, PhysX and some tweak and monitor stuff for over clocking the GPU. I installed what I wanted and skipped the rest. If I were to update the driver for the GPU I would need to make certain the other parts that I had installed were compatible with the new driver or that the new driver also provided those things. Only then could I decide what needed to be removed.

As I already wrote, let us know what you decide to do and I / we will follow up with more about a clean removal of the old driver.

Mel

Hi Guys, good news, aircraft textures back to normal, thanx to you, i went back to an older driver and all is well, we live and learn. I only uninstalled the driver itself and strangely enough it asked me to reboot which i did and it automatically installed a driver, must be one i used previously, 310........ will see how it goes otherwise will install a 314.22.

Enjoy your simming.
