Guru help! Where do I go from here?

My system consists of a C drive which contains my operating system (XP) and other applications (Office, etc). I also have a separate hard drive (D:) which contains only FS9 and associated add-ons. The bad news is a software glitch on my C drive forced me to reformat and reinstall XP. I am looking for assistance as to what to do concerning my D drive and FS9 which were not affected by the software problem. Will I have to reinstall and if so what happens to all of my add-ons? I am fairly computer savvy, but I have never been faced with this particular situation and want to take the proper yet quickest action to get back up and running. Thanks in advance for your assistance.Mike

Hi Mike,I do feel for you :(I've never needed to do this but, in the event, this is how I would tackle the problem:1. Rename your existing Flight Simulator 9 Installation folder on the D: drive to anything you like, say, 'FS9'.2. I note XP is on the C: drive and you have had to reformat and reinstall the O/S. Therefore, there will be no need to delete the 9.0 key in the registry found by browsing in regedit (START - RUN and type in regedit and click ok): HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator9.0This would normally be necessary to allow a reinstall of FS9 to take place but, as I said, this does not apply to your situation since the registry contains no references to FS9....yet ;)3. Reinstall FS9 from the installation CDs and direct the installation to the D: drive as you did first time around. This re-establishes all the entries in the registry.4. Now you can delete (NOT UNINSTALL) the new installation by deleting the folder 'Flight Simulator 9' from the D: drive under Program FilesMicrosoft Games.5. Rename your original installation folder (FS9) to "Flight Simulator 9" - without the quotes and there you have it :)There will undoubtedly be a few 3rd party installations you will need to reinstall to reinstate their registry references, e.g. Active Camera but that shouldn't be too much of a hassle depending, of course, on how many. Most will probably be installable on top of their original installations. Those that aren't should have their folders deleted (after saving congiguration and relevant .ini files to save you having to set them all up again - you'll discover what you can and can't do by a process of trial and error) before attempting a reinstall. If anyone spots any errors in this logic please chip in.Good luck!Mike

Hey Mike,Thanks for the prompt reply! Sorry I took so long in getting back to you. I tried your suggested reinstall method and it seems to have worked O.K. I do however have a question concerning my main FS9 texture folder. I have a lot of files in the folder that have extensions I don't recognize, namely .R8 and .agn. Do you or anyone else recognize these extensions and are they viable files or does something need to be done to make them usable. Thanks again!Mike Heidler
