December 31, 201312 yr I have the FTX Global for FSX. I was anxiously waiting for the FTX Vector and was disappointed after reading the opinions of a few guys who bought it and also was not very impressed with the pictures posted by them. However, today, I came across the openVFR which is also using OSM. The pictures are very impressive and looks like it can do the same job that FTX vector can do at a fraction of a cost. I have a few questions before I buy it though : 1. openVFR compatibility with FTX Global? 2. They have the following options to select from...openVFR terrain & openVFR mesh(75m). Which one of these should I consider buying keeping in mind that I already have FTX Global. Ted Happy New Year
January 1, 201412 yr Apparently Ted, Vector does make "calls" to Orbx textures that openVFR would not make. Meaning whatever textures are programmed into Vector such as the type of beach, coastline, shoreline of lakes, river banks, road surfaces etc they may not be called by openVFR so you might not get the total experience intended with Vector. I do not own Global, Vector nor openVFR but I would like to know if these other vector products can actually do a suitable job. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
January 1, 201412 yr Author Bryan Thanks and a Happy New Year I read thru some of the posts in the FTX compatibility forum and found that there are guys who are using FTX Global with openVFR. In fact I saw some pictures of the scenery posted as well. However, others complain that there are some issues with terrain.cfg. Need to figure this out. Ted
January 1, 201412 yr The terrain.cfg identifies all the textures used by FSX. Orbx modifies the terrain.cfg to include their custom textures. The Orbx regions call upon those textures for only those regional areas, and some regions have specific custom textures that will only be used in that region. Global on the other hand, due to its replacement of the World Scenery (folder) textures that effect the entire globe, calls upon those same textures as identified by their scenery bgls. Vector will also use those global textures. Therefore the custom entries they are calling from their texture sets will be used throughout the world. As I might think I understand it....open VFR will not have any scenery bgls that are calling upon those FTX custom textures and will represent certain sceneries with default textures if they still exist in the texture folder after orbx global modifies it or use FTX textures that have replaced default textures or maybe show none at all if they are not in the world scenery texture folder after orbx gets finished with its modifications, I'm not totally sure. But I can see how the world textures are modified, and the terrain.cfg is modified and therefore depending upon what openVFR does there may be some mismatch of textures. I will check out the treads you mention as well. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
