Most recommended Ultralights?

Featured Replies

Hey All,Just for something different I've been looking into flying ultralights and was wondering if there were any highly reccommended ultralights out there (free or pay). I've seen lots of discussion about this "heavy" versus that "heavy" or this beaver versus that beaver but what about ultralights? Thanks! an Take Care! -Ed-

-Some payware can be found here:http://www.store.yahoo.com/flightsimmodels/I have their Aerolite 103 and have been considering getting the Challenger package as well. My problem with them is that the aircraft are somewhat overpriced. The models are OK but something like $6 instead of $12 would be enough and more reasonable. For $12.50 you can get e.g. the Lyon's Travel Air which is a much more complex simulation. But the models are OK.- Some freeware by Byron Warwick is available in the file library:Thruster Sprint - This model looks and flies well but it's quite a big downloadFerrari Tucano Ultralight (I haven't tried this one)Jabiru (light Sports plane - also get the improvements by John Cillis)

Thanks for your comments (on my Jabiru update)...Byron has pretty much set the standard with freeware ultralights. I also agree on Flightsimmodels--a bit overpriced. I've offered to help them with their work--they are well modelled but each model is flawed in pretty significant ways. But I never received a response, sorry to say. I would have done the work pro bono in exchange for access to their suite of ultralights.Another great package was offered by Lago. Don't know if they still sell it, but it offered a pretty complete (and inexpensive) ultralight set.-John

If you buy Lago's Emma Field it comes with a pretty nice ultralight and also a couple of gliders.Jim

John did some wonderful smoothing on this project and was of great help on the flight dynamics: http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/Us...b6b23aa4f1a.jpgNow if I could just get the gauges finished and texturing done :-wink2 Will probably end up getting Easygauge after all. A lot of expense just to make a freeware plane!Zane

Hey All,I take it there isn't alot out there. I've looked some and found very few of interest although I do enjoy the Storch by Vele. Unfortunately he didn't put one on amphib gear. I'll try the Rans and the Jabiru. It is unfortunate that John C. can't update those Challengers at flightsimmodels. I'd have thought there would be real interest in aircraft that meet the US sport pilot license or the ultralight pilot license in Canada and I suspect similar elsewhere.I'm interested in ultralights like this Bushcaddy R-80:http://www.bushcaddy.com/images/IMG_0156.jpgor this Fly Synthesis Storch:http://www.flysynthesis.com/gallerie/storc...cha_sea_big.jpgOr even this Avid Catalinahttp://www.ultralightnews.com/ulbg2/images/catalina.jpgIt would be fun to fly some of these planes with Rotax or Jabiru engine sounds in FS.I don't know about the US or elsewhere in the world but in Canada an ultralight is basically a plane with a gross takeoff weight <=1200 lbs AND a stall speed less than 45mph. If it meets these requirements it's likely an ultralight. Note that many of these ultralights look like typical GA planes (not just flying wings with a body hanging under them) and are well suited for bush flying. Too bad so very few are modeled when there are so many of them.Take Care! -Ed-

Hi Guys Byron Warwick here just letting anyone who likes ultralights know that i will be releasing a skyranger ultralight for 2004 very soon and a float version soon after.

Byron strikes again!Byron--for your next project, you may wish to give some consideration to the Titan Tornado 2 place. Given your great 3-d modelling skills and my somewhat questionable reputation in applying smoothing and dynamic shine, maybe we could collaborate :)-John

Hey All,Byron - It looks good! Is it gonna be floats or amphib? Also how bout a taildragger! A Titan 2 place would be great also.Take Care! -Ed-

Although it's probably not classed as a microlight - it's really a STOL - Guy Hulin made an exceptional Morane Saulnier 500 and 505 series which is available from the Avsim library. Wasn't the MS500 a French version of the Storch? It's a great aircraft to fly. Take off in next to no time and you can dive almost vertically with the throttle right back and full flaps and not exceed 60 kts. Bit like a Porter in that respect. However, I do find that this model wanders about a little - difficult to keep in a straight line whilst taxying in zero wind conditions as well as holding an accurate course, again in zero wind conditions. I've tried messing around with yaw parameters in the aircraft.cfg file with no success. Does anyone have any ideas what might cure this? I know, I ought to contact the author - but I haven't :-) There again, this might be a feature of the real aircraft?David

Hi John Titan2 you say ,i will have a look at this one,at the moment i have been asked to do a eurocub and a grumman tiger but i can look into it. will drop you a private mail to discuss.Anyway i forgot the virtual piccy so here it is.It is only available in float and tricyle variants ,i will be bringing the float version out next.
