Update: Well, it turned out to be like Scoob said.  It was the OS.  Apparently I had corrupted registry files. I am using a Lenovo Y400 to run the game, and Lenovo uses a "One Key Recovery" that sets your computer back to day one. I used that, which reinstalled Windows 8.0 replacing Windows 8.1, and from there I installed a fresh copy of FSX Gold. I then tried to put Acceleration on the computer, but it would not take Acceleration due to a common installation error. I uninstalled Acceleration, and loaded SP1 and SP2 and then loaded ejets v2 and all worked well.
