PILOT BRIEFING: - HOW ARE YOUR LANDINGS!

Captains,

Ever so often we will be checking in on you to get some feedback regarding your OOE - Overall Operating Experience.  We are aware that some pilots find the aircraft to be a bit intimidating regarding power management and this becomes more evident during the approach phase of the flight.

One of our Beta Test Pilots who is actually a Q400 pilot has been kind enough to share some of his techniques that he has made notes of regarding best practices in setting your aircraft up for a stable approach/landing.

We hope that this information will prove to be beneficial in helping to you to better understand your Q400.

If you have any questions please feel free to post in the forum.

This is a very useful presentation, given that this aircraft flies so differently from  most others. It is important to know  that descent must be controlled  with power. There is still a need for a move-by-move tutorial for landing without the autopilot, but this tutorial helps. There are plenty of Youtube  tutorials on takeoffs, flying and landing the Q400, but all of them  use the autopilot. After hours of practice hand-landing the Q400, I can still only do a good landing about once in 3 tries, but before this tutorial I could only do it maybe one in ten tries. The problem is that simultaneously controlling airspeed, orientation, pitch while following a glideslope are all  difficult to do in this aircraft.

Hi

Thank you for the landing technique guide, I can only speak for myself but this will really come in handy to tidy up my landings.

Take care, and have fun.
