When Buying Payware Scenery

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Just a question about DX10 compatibility.....

I've only installed a few of my Aerosoft scenery so far and they seem to be working just fine under DX10.

My question is about buying scenery and making sure they're DX10 compatible.

Just about all the scenery I purchase are from Aerosoft.  Is it safe to assume that those with FSX SP2/Acceleration listed under "requirements" will work just fine in DX10?

*edit*  I forgot to add that I'm using Steve's DX10 Fixer.

Thanks

'Fraid not, Maurice! Firstly - many pc issues, having a shader issue, a wrong configuration, or an old DX10 version, lots of things can mess up an airport just as easily as Aerosoft's deliberate ommissions during beta testing.

That being said - unlike Orbx, FlyTampa, FSDT, SimAddons or FlightBeam - Aerosoft has little sympathy for those who use their products with DX10 as the Direct3d graphics version - BUT - Steve's DX10SF does fix almost everthing that has been thrown at it thus far, so - personally - I would feel confident that anything which is designed for SP2/Acceleration will work, and that many other, earlier scenerys will be made to work, too.

Your most friendly resource is to ask on the forums that cater to the DX10'er - it's likely that all of their products are being used by various users here and there, and someone will usually respond. A compatibility list was started, but the requested format was disallowed, and so it just became a long, wandering thread with no organized structure, and has been allowed to drift into oblivion.

Good Luck

Thank you, Paul.  Great to hear there are no issues with Aerosoft so far.

It's too bad they're not fans of DX10.  I remember reading about their choice not to support it several years ago.  Their reason was that DX10 was not complete with too many bugs.  I thought they'd change their minds by now, especially after the release of Steve's Fixer.  Hopefully they'll re-consider it in the future.

I'll take your advice and ask the forum or do a search before purchase.

This is my second time back to DX10 and after several Inspector adjustments, I finally got the performance I'm looking for with much higher settings than DX9 (and the light bloom, oh my!).  I'm staying in DX10 for sure now.

Thanks again.

Great to hear it, Maurice. There's more to come, too!

All the best,
