February 12, 201412 yr Greetings one and all, i am contemplating the purchase of the Flyengravity CDU to use it with my PMDG 737 NGX within FSX. I have read that one must purchase a bit of software from PMDG so that the device will work. However, i am unable to find the relevant software/driver for purchase on the PMDG website. Am I missin something? Would not want to waste a small fortune on some hardware without being able to get it to work plug and play style as advertised. Hope someone can enlughten me here? Thanks and best regards, Rene
February 13, 201412 yr Unfortunately the FlyEngravity CDU is not compatible with the PMDG737NGX for the moment. It requires an update of the SDK to allow datatransfer over USB. There is a thread about this subject on the FlyEngravity forum, which you can read over here: http://www.flyengravity.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=891 The software you are referring to was driversoftware sold by PMDG in the past. It was for the 737 they created for FS2004. This software is no longer available.
February 13, 201412 yr Author Hi Jon, thank you for your input on this matter. I did come across this link too: http://www.flightsimlabs.com/interfaces/flyengravity-cdu-fsx/ I thought this means it will be compatible as per my needs. What alternative do you suggest? Opencockpits?
February 13, 201412 yr The page you are referring to is the driversoftware from FlightSimLabs. This is software to interface the 737 or 747 FlyEngravity CDU with the PMDG 747-400 (not the 737NGX). I also have their software, but it can only be used with the PMDG 747-400. The CDU from Opencockpits is an option, but I'm not sure if you can also use it in fullscreen or windowed-mode only, because the CDU from Opencockpits acts as a second monitor, so you have to drag the software CDU from PMDG737NGX to the second monitor (CDU from Opencockpits). Right now I'm using an app called "Virtual CDU" until the SDK gets updated (whenever that is). This is an app you can use if you have an iPad (Apple iOS) or Android. It works perfectly and you connect it via Wifi. You can read more about it over here: http://www.virtualavionics.com.br/Page/product/9_Virtual-CDU.html
February 13, 201412 yr Author Thanks Jon. Virtual CDU looks like an okay alternative...I just dont have an iPad...just an iPhone Might look into this though if I dont find an alternative.
