February 14, 201412 yr Hey all, I have read such good things about FTXG and I purchased it today and downloaded the somewhat large file. Plan to install it tonight but before I do, was concerned about a report on costas world web site where it reports some incompatibility issues with some 3rd party sceneries, manipulation of core FSX files and the like. Sounds rather scary..... I will be doing a full FSX back up before installing but I am worried that I will also end up with trees on the runways at my many of my add on airports or other issues. Am I just being paranoid? I have some Aerosoft sceneries and some from smaller developers such as NMG Trading. I don't have any other Orbx products at the moment but I have some landclass updates for Africa where I do most of my flying. I presume that the file I downloaded will contain the latest version? Thanks! February 16, 201412 yr Well, no one, repeat no one, can guarantee your install will be 100% trouble free. But having said that I feel confident you will find your FTXG will act properly, share, and play nicely with all the other children. I've got more than a few Aerosoft cities and some other free & payware sceneries and airports and FTXG has never been a problem in the least. Yes, the way it handles the core files seems to be a worry to many but I truthfully haven't seen any problems and I do think any problems are more imaginary than real. Good looking stuff with frequent upgrades and support. Relax, wipe you fevered brow and enjoy. I have been using the program since shortly after its initial release. Note: You do need something like UTX or FTX Global Vector and a landclass program to get the most enjoyment from the programming. You do not need UTX & Global Vector both & if you already have GEX installed you need to uninstall it first. Dan George (woodhick)Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.
February 16, 201412 yr You may experience missing custom autogen in a couple of non-ORBX sceneries. But so far only a few sceneries seem to be affected. I'm pretty sure, for most users the advantages of FTX-G outweigh these occasional effects. Furthermore, ORBX work on compatibility with a number of other developers' sceneries. (But not all of them!) But strictly speaking, you're right: FTX-G compromises other developers' sceneries by ORBX' use of non-standard development techniques. February 16, 201412 yr Author Thanks woodhick and ollie4740, Installed and all my important add on sceneries seem tp play nicely together with FTXG. I do have a suspicion though that I have a slight drop in FPS. Is this something that can happen? I did play around with the auto gen scenery slider but it seems to have little effect on my system in terms of FPS. February 17, 201412 yr Could be either the increased autogen in ORBX products or the more demanding custom night lighting. What happened to AVSIM
February 17, 201412 yr Could be either the increased autogen in ORBX products or the more demanding custom night lighting. +1 You may need to lighten up on the scenery sliders a little. But having said that, there's so much to see in Orbxland it doesn't much matter. Dan George (woodhick)Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.
