February 16, 201412 yr After a pc upgrade recently I wanted to fire up FSX. (new motherboard, more memory, and reinstall windows 7 from 32 bit to 64 bit) It was installed on D drive and so FSX remained untouched during the upgrade. When I hit the FSX.exe, I get this message- FS cannot run because the version of MS DirectX® installed on your pc is incompatible. Please reinstall DirectX 9.0 by running FS setup, or download the current version, etc, etc I have other games/ simulations, and I guess these won't run on an older version. Like Aerofly simulator. So what shall I do? BTW I reinstalled FS9 and got no such message. Misgav.

February 16, 201412 yr Hi Misgav; It's a communication language. Imagine (for a moment) that your old computer used Windows 7 and communicated to applications using Mandarin Chinese, flavours 3, 4, and 5. When you initially installed FSX - it also installed the language that it needed to speak to the PC as well - Mandarin Chinese, version 2.. So the PC would now have Mandarin Chinese versions 2, 3, 4 and 5, and able to talk to FSX and lots of newer apps. You then wiped out Windows 7 and put on a very different, and newer version - which didn't have Mandarin Chinese v2 included - so now you need to either a). reinstall FSX, which will add the v2 language, or B). download the language from MS, as Jan did. There will be no impact on any other programme. If you substitute the word "Direct3d" for Mandarin Chinese, and DX9c for v2 - you will have got the message! I hope this helps..... All the best, pj i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
February 17, 201412 yr I think you have to install FSX, not just copy it over and use FSX.EXE. You can replace the new install with the old folder/files. Dave
