February 26, 201412 yr Just got my notification from EVGA that the 780ti Dual Classified Hydrocopper is available. So - time for me to revisit the debate I was having with myself last fall. For P3D v2.1 (which is emerging as my primary sim) and FSX (which I haven't given up on entirely) - am I better off moving up to the 780ti, which has 3 Gigs of VRAM, or sticking with my 680 SC, which has 4 Gigs? More VRAM or more processing power? What's the current consensus? Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
February 26, 201412 yr VRAM on the GPU is only useful if you're running high resolutions..I don't think 1GB is going to make too much difference.. I changed from a 4GB 680 to a 780 Ti recently.. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
February 27, 201412 yr Author Thanks, John - that's good to know. I've always done well in the past by increasing raw video processing power. I have a nagging concern that P3D2 might appreciate the extra VRAM more than FSX, but even so, the overall performance of the card should be an advantage. Will probably bite the bullet. If I do, I'll report back. Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
February 27, 201412 yr FWIW, in the quick look I've had at P3D, it seems to run nicely.. and I'm running 2x Dell 27" 2560x1440 displays Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
February 27, 201412 yr Author Good to know. I'm on a single 26" Viewsonic at 1920x1280x32 (I survived a Matrox Triplehead and now I'm trying to keep things simple). Sounds like that won't stress the card too much. Now I just need to get ready to drain the water loop and then refill it. But it's due for that anyway, so while I'm at it, I might as well upgrade the card... B) Thanks again! Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
February 27, 201412 yr Should run sweet on that then I am toying with 'downgrading' to a 24" 1900x1200 monitor.. the larger resolution is hard on the frames at times. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
February 27, 201412 yr Author I am toying with 'downgrading' to a 24" 1900x1200 monitor.. the larger resolution is hard on the frames at times. Taking a simpler approach worked for me. At least, until I decided I needed custom water cooling... Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
