FSX stopped working!

Recommended Posts

Hallo guys. Some days before i installed fsx with PMDG NGX, My traffic 2013, REX essential+. The problem is that after 30 minutes of flight the fsx freezes and didnt respond!
It is important to hint that i have already done 4-5 flights and they finished great! Only at some points the fsx freezes for 10-20 secs and then everything ok!
Here is the report from appcrashview!

On the bottom of your post, click on More Reply Options.  AVSIM will only allow txt files so you will have to rename your fsx.cfg to say, Kostas_FSX.txt.  We really do not need any attachments or further documentation though.  I could take a look at your Fsx.cfg but I strongly recommend that you use the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide.  If you added any tweaks, that's at your own risk.  AVSIM does not recommend any tweaks in your Fsx.cfg but the guide does list some of the known tweaks and what they do and how to insert them in your Fsx.cfg if you so desire (but at your own risk).  Try to avoid tweaks as much as possible.

The FSX freezes/AppHangs are common.  The AVSIM CTD Guide provides some suggestions for finding the cause and fixing freezes.  The link to the AVSIM CTD Guide and FSX Configuration Guide can be found under Hot Spots to the right of this forum.

Unfortunately a freeze or hangup does not provide much information in an AppCrashView report.  You might want to take a look at the AppCrashView program and see if there are more AppHangs or maybe even AppCrashes as they could be interrelated.

I have already made some modifications to the fsx.cfg. But i have not overclocked my cpu! I hope this problem soon will end!

I have already use attachments on past threads. The attchment button was at the bottom of the full editor reply now has gone! I dont know where it is! At full editor it gives me only as in simple reply!

Believe the webmaster shut down the uploading of attachments for security reasons.  You can no longer upload images directly to AVSIM too.  Only way to do that is to host the attachment/image on another site like dropbox.

I can see now why you are having freezes after 30 minutes.  Your fsx.cfg is tweaked.  Use the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide.  Specifically remove the following or comment them out so they will not load (i.e., place two slashes in front of the items like //MultiSamplesPerPixel=8):

[GRAPHICS]
MultiSamplesPerPixel=8
MultiSampleQuality=4

[Main]
FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.12

I can't believe you didn't put the BufferPool tweak in your config.  Everyone thinks that's the holy grail of tweaks.  I would not recommend it.  That causes freezes and CTD's on 85% of the computer systems.

The TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=120 in the display section is way, way too high.  Lower to about 40 and no higher than 90.  Looks like you were reading Kostas' FSX Configuration guide somewhere.  That guide does not work for most.  Your system does not require any tweaks.  Just leave Texture_Max_Load at 2048 and you can raise the LOD_Radius up to as high as 6.5.  I have no idea what your other scenery settings are like Mesh_Complexity.  I would have to load those figures into my fsx.cfg, run fsx and see where the sliders are located.  Not going to do that.

Look at the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide and use that as your guide for your FSX and NI settings.  Anything higher or any tweaks in the Fsx.cfg will cause problems.  Believe me!  The two best tweaks are the Texture_Max_Load=2048 and the LOD_Radius at 6.5.  I can't believe you are tweaking your computer system!

Thank you for the suggestions. TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=120 , Texture_Max_Load=2048, [GRAPHICS]

MultiSamplesPerPixel=8
MultiSampleQuality=4

All these tweaks are added via the avsim software and hardware guide. No i havent read and added anything from Kostas cfg.

It is important to note that with these settings a 2 hour flight was accomplished but with some freezes especially at the start!

Also before making any tweaks in my cfg there were freezes! (The only tweak was highmemfix=1, because it is obligatory!)

Paul's settings in the AVSIM Software and Hardware Guide were replaced by the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide.  Paul's guide is mostly for DX10 users and is his guide and no longer AVSIM's.  He hosts his guide on his own dropbox website.  Paul and I disagree a lot about tweaks and settings. My FSX runs great with mostly default settings in DX10.  He has to add tweaks.  I follow the guidelines of NickN and the Orbx developer's guide shown in every Orbx manual for the AVSIM Guide.

According to the AVSIM CTD Guide freezes are caused by:

Freezes During Flight – Freezes are most commonly caused by –

  • High FSX/display driver settings.  Check.
  • High settings within commercial weather programs like REX, AS2012, OPUS.  Check. Some raise settings to the highest texture settings (4096 HD) within weather programs. This coupled with high FSX.cfg LOD_Radius and Texture_Max_Load settings may take up too many resources and FSX will freeze.
  • Complications with weather server updates.  FSX may try to update the weather and the weather server is down or cannot comply with a request.
  • Running out of Virtual Address Space (VAS) especially on one hour or longer flights (see VAS discussion further down in this section).
  • Bad FSX tweaks.  Rebuild the FSX.cfg to see if this fixes the problem.
  • ENBSeries Module
  • SweetFX Module

Most freezes/CTD's have to be investigated as there is no known fix for every freeze.  Just having a bad or not very powerful power supply for your computer system could cause FSX to freeze up.  I don't know what your PSU is but this is just an example of all the many things that can go wrong with your computer and FSX.  FSX uses a lot of system resources as it is a very old program.  Now I'm not saying you have a bad power supply but you could.  It would be very difficult to detect a underpowered PSU unless your computer suddenly shut down during a flight.

The AVSIM CTD Guide gives you a guide on how to investigate.  It brings back your installation of FSX back to the default by having you disable all scenery addons, disabling modules in the dll.xml, returning your fsx.cfg to the default settings.  FSX runs well and with great fps and system resources in default mode.  In fact, if you ran just fsx in default, you would probably get over 200 fps (I got nearly 300 fps with my system).  Then you start adding addons and modules and things go downhill from there on.  I have just two tweaks and that's changing the LOD_Radius to 6.5 and Texture_Max_Load to no higher than 2048.  Unbelievable performance with crisp textures and graphics.  Every so often though I will run into a glitch and it turns out to be a bad FSX addon causing my problems.  I use to get those freezes after 30 minutes in flight but they are gone.  In my case it was because I had my LOD_Radius set at 7.5 AND if I disabled my commercial weather program and used the default weather program, the freezes went away.  I turned on the commercial program and FSX froze almost at the same location every time.  I looked in my settings in the weather program and saw that I had set the textures for the clouds to be 4096.  Changed them all back to the programs default and the freezes stopped.

Could you please send me a link with these guides? I only have the avsim sotware and hardware guide!

Hope to configurate it with these guides and get my problem resolved!

My fps are quite well! This is not the primary problem!

The most important problem is that with freezes!

I provided the info in Post #2 but they are both located under Hot Spots to the right of this forum.  If you follow the procedures to investigate in the CTD Guide, you will fix your problem.
