March 16, 201412 yr If you crash or freeze along the East Coast in FS9 download the CFF Explorer and change it to use 8 gigs instead of 2 for 64 bit systems. There is a great article on here with steps on how to do it. Also if you run the KIAD scenery from Blueprint along with the KBWI scenery there is a conflict between the two. I unchecked my BWI in scenery settings. So when I go back to IAD I will see if that was the problem. FS9 wont run good on a 64 bit machine sine it was made for 32 bit and 2 gig of memory.
March 16, 201412 yr FS9 wont run good on a 64 bit machine sine it was made for 32 bit and 2 gig of memory. Same for FSX. A 64 bit operating system has nothing to do with it other than it will run FSX and FS9 better as there is better memory management. A 64 bit system can "see" up to 4 GB of virtual address space (VAS) whereas on a 32 bit system, it can see up to 3GB if you employ the /3GB switch. There is no program out there that will give you 8GB's of VAS. Running out of VAS is the problem affecting mainly FSX (FS9 seems to have little or no problem with this issue). The only way you can prevent running out of VAS is to eliminate any photoscenery you will not be using during a flight and lowering your FSX settings and your video card display driver settings. You might be talking about a swap file or "virtual memory". Swap files will not save you from crashes too even if you make a 16GB swap file. For further discussions about VAS and FSX, check out the AVSIM CTD Guide and look under "freezes" or Out of Memory crashes. I invite you to also read the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide which provides suggestions for improving performance at the end of the guide. Both guides can be found under Hot Spots located just to the right of this forum. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource!
