March 26, 201412 yr I have Horizons vfr genx photo scenery of the UK for FSX,including the version 2 upgrades. Can anyone tell me how FSX loads scenery? It seems that if I have all of the VFR scenery active in the scenery library, my flights takes ages to load, even when I am not loading a flight within the VFR area! E.g. I can load a flight departing Edinburgh Scotland and the flight takes minutes to load with the England VFR scenery active. Surely this shouldn't be the case? Stuart
March 27, 201412 yr For what it is worth....I have all 10 volumes of the Horizon Scenery. I also use the "all in one" folder structure. Which makes the Scenery Library listings much shorter and tidy. I always try where possible to deselect areas that I am not flying in...ie. if flying Scotland, then uncheck England & Ireland in the Library. If all areas are active in the Library then you will experience very long load times. Seeing as Horizon/Playsims or whatever they were called seem to have gone to the wall, you could try having a look for assistance here. http://forum.flightstore.co.uk/?forum=314849 It is the only source of knowledge now for those products and it is limited. But certainly worth a try. Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
March 27, 201412 yr Author Thanks 'Dogtrack'. That was my thought too. You might like to download and try "Scenery Manager" from the Avsim library. It allows you to set up folders of your various scenery files, so that you enable and disable whole swathes of scenery with one click. E.g you could assign the various volumes of GenX to different folders and only activate the folders that you wish to fly within. Save a lot of time and fiddling. Maybe you already use such a tool? March 27, 201412 yr Yes have tried it in the past. Guess I must be one of the few who doesn't like it, but hey, that's just me. Prefer to sort myself out. Then I only have myself to blame if it all goes pear shaped. Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
