March 31, 201412 yr new to Garmin 530 wanting to do flt plan , I open 530 and hit menu and get " NO OPTIONS " ? wanting to set up SID , only get selections of approaches ect but no departures ? appreciate some guidance Philthy Phil [email protected]
March 31, 201412 yr Are you using RXP? I will assume so, since default GPS has no SID/STAR options. First you need to have a departure and arrival airport ICAO in the flight plan, then goto "Procedures" (PROC) -> "Select Departures" and choose. This "Procedures" menu applies to the default GPS as well, but you won't find departures, just arrivals and approaches. Ethan Edelson

You cannot edit a flight plan in it, nor can you add SID or STARS (i might even be wrong about the fact that it has arrivals actually). The only in-flight editing it's capable of is Direct To, which is fine for emergency diversions but otherwise quite limited. Best thing to do is make a flight plan in your favorite planner, then load the flight plan before flight. The default GPS isn't bad, it gets a worse reputation than I think it deserves for being a fairly decent built-in tool. That said, the questions you are asking and the options you want available indicate you might be interested in getting the RXP GPS unit - or another type of GPS addon. It brings the depth and function of GA aircraft up to a more realistic standard, and the function is exactly the same as the real Garmin 530, so you can read the actual Garmin manual and apply everything across the board.
