Brakes do not work

Featured Replies

Greetings all. I've just finished building a new computer and most everything has gone well. Trying to get everything installed and tweeaked for FS2004 has been the most time-consuming aspect of this process.Out of the many problems I figured I would have (didn't really have any that I expected I would have), one is baffling me.My brakes do not work. They are assigned to my ch yoke #1 button (left button on the front of the yoke) as I had a wire go bad on my peddle brakes some time ago.I've assigned the brake settings to that button as well as left and right differential braking on the toggle switch on the top right by the hat switch. They work when you first load the sim, but as soon as you throttle up and start your takeoff roll or taxi, they stop working. They show up as assigned still in the control assignments so I'm quite baffled here.I'm hopping maybe someone else has experienced this here and might have some suggestions.Thank you.Lance

Man, that's weird--second time in about two months that I come to this forum with a specific question and find someone else is asking it. Also using CH yoke (Gameport). I have the brakes set on button #1 (left handle of yoke). I've adjusted the button repeat. I've tried setting it with FSUIPC (registered) but still no brakes. Default keyboard for brakes (".") does work. Last night, however, I discovered that it seems to affect only payware planes. Didn't have time to test a lot but the default Baron has brakes but the Cardinal 177, Seneca V, and Aerostar do not.Anyways, I also need a solution. Randall

Check the joystick assignments and make sure the toe brake assignment is deleted. If you have seperate controler assignments, as you might have if you have USB controlers, make sure the rudder is selected in the dropdown when you delete the toe brake's assignment to the brakes.

I had a similar problem recenetly, it turned out to be that I needed to assign the brake command in the latest version of FSUIPC, not sure but it was like something had changed due to the new FSUIPC.Dan.

Tried changing brake button to a new assignment--did not make a difference. I did discover that when the brake button is applied, the throttle to engine 1 becomes unusable--the throttle stays right where it's at. When I release the brake button, I again can move the throttle lever. Must be some kind of conflict but I can't find it. Went through assignments for keys and buttons in FSUIPC but could find nothing that seems to be related to the problem. Will try using a default FSUPIC.ini without assignments tonight to narrow down the problem. Tried assigning brake in FSUIPC only but still no brakes. Any suggestions are appreciated!RandallCHproducts Yoke PC (Gameport)CHproducts Throttle Quadrant

Thanks for the input guys. My problem is not just limited to the CH Yoke. I lose the default "Period" brake key as well. My brakes used to be assigned to the peddles and the left differential brake still works, however I can't find for the life of me where that is assigned? It doesn't show up in the control assignments as being assigned and I'm not able to assign anything to the peddles via FS2004. When I click change assignement then push the peddles, nothing happens.Someone suggested I delete the fs9 config file and let FS generate a new one when I load it up again. I'll give that a try tonight and if that doesn't work, possibly reinstall FS2004.It doesn't appear to be any hardware issue at the moment, but a FS problem. Thanks again!Lance

When I had the same problem as you (toe brake inop), I had to go into the Options>Assignments menu and disable both brake axes before the period key would activate the brakes. I notice that you say you can't find those axis assignments so let me remind you that near the top right-hand side of the Axis Assignments screen is a drop-down box which shows the yoke (or Controller 1 or Joystick 1) by default. Click the arrow and find the entry for your pedals. Then remember that the list is long and you must scroll down to see any axis on the pedals controller. You'll find the brake axes down there somewhere. I hope that this helps. R-

Got mine fixed. It was connected to FSUIPC though I don't know for sure what it was. I let FSUIPC create another .ini file--Brakes worked! I then copied and pasted the button and key assignments from the old .ini to the new. I now have brakes and all my button and key assignments too. Go figure.Randall

Just wanted to come back and say thanks for the ideas.I do have brakes again. I deleted the peddle brake assignments again, then assigned my brakes to the yoke #1 button and left/right to the flip switch on the right.Deleted the FS9.cfg file, started FS9 to regenerate a new FS9.cfg and everything seems to be working fine again. Thanks for the help!
