GPS with the Default 737-800 MFD

Featured Replies

When using the GPS nav system to fly a flight plan that has been loaded into the default 737-800 autopilot, the MFD will indicate the distance to the "fix", whatever it is (VOR, intersection, airport, etc) but does not display the name of the fix anywhere that I can find. Even the "simple" stand-alone Garmin 500 displays the name or code designation for the fix you are currently flying to. Am I missing something, is there a way to get the name of the fix to be displayed on the default 737-800 MFD?

Thx,

Al

Check your question at Flightsim.com.  I was waiting to see what kind of responses you

got with this question.

I haven't done a lot of use with the GPS but if I'm right (That'll be a first) the GPS shows

waypoints, which are just arbitrary points with names on a map.  These aren't like VORs

or NDBs that are devices that emit a signal that NAV1 or the ADF pick up and display the

name on the MFD.

Hope I'm not being confusing here, but since no one else responded.....

A GPS like the Garmin 500 will "name" the next flight plan  "fix" you are currently heading towards. A fix can be just about anything ( an intersection, airport, VOR, etc). The feedback on FlightSim said the MFD on the default 737 will only name VORs or NDBs that you have tuned in on Nav1 or Nav2 (and which may not be the fix your are flying towards). They suggested using the Garmin popup (typically Shift+3) to keep track of the fixes when flying the default 737. I suspect a newer and more advanced payware 737 like the PMDG 737NGX may provide "names" like the Garman GPS, but I'm not sure since I don't have that a/c.

Thanks for the response.

As a quick update, I was shown on another site that the MFD on the newer 737sims like the PMDG 737 NGX do display the names of flight plan fixes.

Maybe someone a lot cleverer than I will develop a guage mod for the default 737 MFD.    ^_^
