Running FS9 on mutli-monitors...

Featured Replies

Hey all, I have ordered a 19 inch Viewsonic 16ms LCD that will be here Friday, I am replacing my old 19 inch CRT with it. I was curious as to how simple/difficult it is to setup FS on 2 monitors. Using my old monitor for panel windows. I have a Radeon 9800 pro for my video card. I haven't checked, but I assume that it supports the DVI output for the LCD monitor and the old analog for the CRT...will it be a simple task for me to use both monitors for FS?727Sig.gif[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=root&SearchTerm=fritsche&Sort=Added&ScanMode=0&Go=Change+View]My work...[/a][a href=http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?nr_of_rows=304&sort_order=photo_id+desc&first_this_page=0&page_limit=15&&emailsearch=Fiveholer%40sbcglobal.net]See me at Airliners.net...[/a][a href=http://www.jetphotos.net/showphotos.php?userid=6673]Also at jetphotos.net...[/a]

No problem at all. Just plug the new monitor into the DVI input on the 9800, and then use Display Properties to set the CRT as the primary monitor and expand the desktop across both monitors. To get the desired windows onto the old CRT just right-click, undock, and drag them across.Doug

Sounds easy enough, would I not set the LCD as my primary monitor as that is the one that I plan on using as main monitor? The CRT as secondary or whatever since I want to use that one for panel windows.727Sig.gif[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=root&SearchTerm=fritsche&Sort=Added&ScanMode=0&Go=Change+View]My work...[/a][a href=http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?nr_of_rows=304&sort_order=photo_id+desc&first_this_page=0&page_limit=15&&emailsearch=Fiveholer%40sbcglobal.net]See me at Airliners.net...[/a][a href=http://www.jetphotos.net/showphotos.php?userid=6673]Also at jetphotos.net...[/a]

I recently struggled around trying to do what you are about to do. As far as I can tell, you need to go into window mode in order to drag things to the secondary monitor and then go back to full screen mode...assuming that is your preferred mode of operation...before you can see what you dragged over.In addition, maybe because of the screen resolution I use (1280/1024)only a thin edge of the object that I drag over is visible at first...then I have to drag it to the center of the screen. No problem except at first I didn't notice it was there and thought the drag process wasn't working.NOTE TO AVSIM MANAGEMENT: I think it would be very useful to have a dedicated Multiple Monitor Forum!Best,Jim

The ideal set up depends on the quality of your CRT monitor. Generally the CRT would be better in displaying (fast) movement although recent tests show that the newer LCD monitors are quite able to perform well too. Another argument could be the space you have. The LCD monitor is flat and therefore easier to place right or left of the main monitor. And a third argument could be that the video card chooses for you: the analog connection is probably monitor 1, and the digital connection monitor 2. Herrie

The 16ms response time on this monitor was a big factor in the descision of choosing it. User reviews contained people that use the same monitor (Viewsonic 191b) in games like Unreal and Half Life 2 with NO ghosting, so FS should be more than fine on it. The way my setup is now, my CRT sits diagonally to my keyboard because the big ####-end of it :-lol I plan to keep it where it is and have the LCD straight on to my keyboard, and more importantly, my yoke ;-) I intend on using the LCD for my main screen, and the CRT for my panel windows. I guess, I will just have to wait until Friday to see how all this is going to work :-)727Sig.gif[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=root&SearchTerm=fritsche&Sort=Added&ScanMode=0&Go=Change+View]My work...[/a][a href=http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?nr_of_rows=304&sort_order=photo_id+desc&first_this_page=0&page_limit=15&&emailsearch=Fiveholer%40sbcglobal.net]See me at Airliners.net...[/a][a href=http://www.jetphotos.net/showphotos.php?userid=6673]Also at jetphotos.net...[/a]

That's sweet, it was actually your setup that got me thinking about multi-monitors again once I ordered this LCD.3rdCRJSig.gif[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=root&SearchTerm=fritsche&Sort=Added&ScanMode=0&Go=Change+View]My work...[/a][a href=http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?nr_of_rows=304&sort_order=photo_id+desc&first_this_page=0&page_limit=15&&emailsearch=Fiveholer%40sbcglobal.net]See me at Airliners.net...[/a][a href=http://www.jetphotos.net/showphotos.php?userid=6673]Also at jetphotos.net...[/a]
