February 21, 200521 yr Hey everbody!Got a big problem that is drivin me nuts!!!! Has anyone had problems with their DGs being off,, i noticed doing a flight from bangkok to haneda in a 777 that on the runways,, my heading indicator is way off the runway heading,, same happened in haneda, so i got curious and got in the default c172 and started moving around to different airports to check the situation. On absolutely every runway my heading indicator is waaaaaaay off.... i can be on runway 22 and my DG says 12, or on 06 and it indicate waay off again,Anyone have any ideas what i can do to fix it! ThanksGrubby
February 21, 200521 yr Press d to recalibrate your heading indicator? There is a realism settign (forget it now) that causes drift in your heading indicator.
February 21, 200521 yr Thanks for your help!I restarted fs and everything went back to normal.. but i had noticed this happening a few times.. makes sense now! I didnt realise this was modelled in fs9, Take care,Kris
February 21, 200521 yr Turn off gyro drift in the realism menu. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
February 21, 200521 yr Author This is a real world phenomenon with all gyros (the attitude indicator and rate of turn indicator are fortunately self correcting by design), they precess over time due to friction. You can re-adjust the heading indicator with the knobs on the indicator to match the magnetic heading, or just hit the D-key to autmatically do it. In real life in the Piper Warrior IIIs I fly in, we check it every 10 minutes in cruise and adjust if neccessary.----------------------------------------------------------------John S.
