February 22, 200521 yr Hi Folks,First of all, if you haven't yet tried Holgers Columbia River Gorge I suggest you download it now from Avsim. It's another fantastic work of art from Holger which has reshaped my thoughts as to how MSFS should look! Thank you Holger...........ALso, more thanks to Holger for the prompt manner in which he responds to requests for help in installing his scenery. In my case I had problems with CTD s as well as duplicate airport entries. Holger always responded (on this forum) to my enquires with helpful suggestions. I was just about to give up trying to get Columbia to work on my system. Finally, I tried his suggestion of reloading textures from my FS 2004 cd's to /scenery/world/texture. THAT DID IT! Wow, Columbia is every bit as good as other people have said. This is what FS 2004 should look like! It's possible that reloading textures may cure other scenery areas where you have ctd's as well. Here's how I did it and how I got around a possible problem some of us scenery junkies may have.To begin with, I have installed many many (etc.) scenery addons including some which have added files to scenery/world/texture. To give you an idea - the default scenery/world/texture from FS2004 cd (#4) has 3,881 objects and it size is 187 mb. My scenery/world/texture with addons has 4,266 objects at 206 mb. Since I don't know if any of the defaults textures (from FS 2004 cd) would override some of my addon textures, I did the following: Note: my method may be a bit complicated - don't try it if you are not comfortable working with files in FS 2004.VERY IMPORTANT - Suggest you definately make of copy of your current /scenery/world/texture folder before you begin.1. Insert the 4th FS 2004 cd into the computer and open the folder SCENERY (located on the cd). Then copy world.cab to a temporary folder on your computer. Unzip world.cab on your computer to the same temporary folder. Then set up a new folder (I named it: /Texture originals from cd s for scenery world texture) and copy the unzipped texture files into it.. Make sure that you get the files from the one you just unzipped labeled: TEXTURE.2. Now go to /scenery/world and make a copy of: /texture and rename it: /Texture not for use in Columbia R G3. Now you should have at least the following in /scenery/world /Texture originals from cd s for scenery world texture/Texture not for use in Columbia R G/Texture4. Then when you want to fly in the Columbia River Gorge scenry area, you should delete the texture file in scenery/world.5. Then COPY file: /Texture original from cd s for scenery world texture to: /texture.Now when you fly in Holgers magnificent scenery you'll have only the original FS 2004 texture files which may be the answer to CTD's you have been getting in CRG.6. Remember: When you want to fly in other scenery areas (outside of CRG) , you should delete the folder /texture (from scenery/world) then COPY folder /Texture not for use in Columbia R G and rename it /texture . 7. ALso, if you are having CTD's in other scenery areas, you could try using /Texture originals from cd s for scenery world texture to see if that works.Hope this helps - many thanks again to Holger.............
February 22, 200521 yr Commercial Member Hi Howard, thanks for posting those instructions - much appreciated!Who would have thought that my add-on can double as a utility to test the integrity of the default texture folders? ;-)In most cases the crashes will be due to missing rather than corrupted textures. Thus, it should be possible to consolidate your current texture folder with the default textures by copying the current one into the default folder, overwriting when asked. However, in case there are indeed corrupted textures it's best to keep a copy of your default textures until you've completed a few successful test flights.Cheers, Holger
February 22, 200521 yr Author Hello Holger,I had already tried adding my current texture file to the default file but the CTD's came back. So, I then started with the default file and added some of my addon files. Here's what happened:I added Bill Lyon's interesting water addon - worked okThen I started adding Lennart's fantastic textures one season at a time, testing after each. All worked well except for HEAVY WINTER! CTD's came back. That where the conflict seems to be on my system. I then started again with the default texture file and added Bill's water addon and all of Lennart's textures except for HEAVY WINTER and all works well. Now, I've used Lennart's Textures since he first uploaded them and haven't had a recurring CTD in the same place or relative area. I have had CTD's but not in a consistant area etc.Have a good one.........
