June 15, 201411 yr Simmers, I recently began the process of installing applications onto a brand new Acer notebook. Haven't updated my specs yet, but it's an Acer V5 with a Radeon R7 M265 card and running Windows 8.1. I installed FSX, ran it, and it worked fine, including the ability to conduct a test flight. I then installed SP1, SP2, and the PMDG NGX base package onto the system. When I loaded up the sim, and tried again, though a crash occurred. I discovered that to be the uiautomationcore.dll crash, and fixed it, though the next time I tried to click "fly now", I got another crash. Puzzled, I checked, and found it to be the atiumdag dll that was causing the issue. I was running the Acer provided (most updated) drivers for the AMD card. So, I tried a few more times to fly, with the same result. FSX would load, but not fly. I then proceeded to attempt all of the fixes I could find online. When I uninstalled the card and reinstalled the 13.4 drivers from the AMD website, my graphics card was not recognized at all by my computer (it wasn't present in the device manager). It re-appeared when I reverted to the updated drivers, though FSX still wouldn't fly. I followed all of the steps very closely on the AVSIM post about how to fix the issue, though it got me nowhere. I've tried several other things since, including the mobility 13.4 drivers, and attempting to search for Acer legacy drivers, to no avail to the issue (the mobility drivers I found had the same result as the other 13.4 drivers), and I couldn't find any other Acer legacy AMD VGA drivers. I've also tried it without SP2 and the NGX, with no luck. The only time I successfully managed to get into a flight was when the Intel card stopped. Using the basic rendering card by Microsoft, I managed to fly, though not really. The lack of a video card made it almost impossible to fly, and therefore I reinstalled the Intel card drivers. This brought me the Intel card back, though no ability to fly. Whether or not it has pertinence to the issue, even when displayed and functioning in the Device Manager, the AMD card is not recognized by FSX. This was true, however, in my old laptop, and I believe that it is only because the graphics card is integrated. Thank you for any and all help - I would love to get this sorted as soon as possible. Thanks! PS - Admin, feel free to move this to the Windows 8 forum. I thought it was more of a CTD topic, though I do run Windows 8 for this, and it may have a correlation to the issue. June 15, 201411 yr I moved this to the video card forum as this appears to be an issue with your video card drivers. Whenever you install a new video card you should move the fsx.cfg to a temp directory, delete it, or rename it and then restart FSX and let the config rebuild. Due to Windows 8 security, FSX may not have identified your video card properly. Hopefully you ran the video card installation program with Administrative Rights, had the User Access Controls and any anti-virus program disabled. Some goes when installing FSX, FSX SP2, and any addons like the PMDG aircraft. I do recall there was a problem with one set of ATI drivers and I hope this can be confirmed in the Video Card forum.
