June 15, 201411 yr Since I havent flown for years I was hoping for some advice on realistic settings for turbulance and vibration in the 737. The default settings seems awfull rough for a jet up in the flight levels. Some times it feels more like the truck I drive on my job. Can you really feel that much vibration and almost perpetual chop at FL 370? Any advice from any experianced flyer who uses OPUS DHM to help me find that thin line of realism would be appreciated. June 15, 201411 yr Commercial Member Yes, turbulence is violent and choppy. The DHM data was recorded aboard a 737-800. There are no smooth wobbles with turbulence. You only have to view in flight cockpit videos to see this. We have received a great number of compliments from experienced airline pilots regarding the realism of the DHM. One such experienced airline pilot has helped us fine tune the additional site effects which again use DHM to depict turbulent motions. If you find yourself in turbulent air at any high flight level (most likely caused by CAT or Clear Air Turbulence), then you must either rude it out or request a level change. A change of 1000 or 2000 feet will normally take you out of it, but not always. OpusFSI will allow you to specify an upper level and check the turbulence data on the weather map to help with this decision. But most CAT is caused by changes in wind and temp gradients so you could also examine the Opus on-screenUpper Atmospheric report to guess at where the smooth air will be found. All turbulent motions are quite bumpy and violent though ... Is rough air and does not produce anything resembling a see saw rocking or a wobbling motion ... Turbulence is sudden and violent at all levels. Stephen :-)
June 15, 201411 yr Author Thankyou Stephen. I guess I will use the default settings then. Good day. Vic green
June 16, 201411 yr Commercial Member Whoops, I have assumed you are using the OpusFSX LWE which provides intelligent control of the DHM turbulence. If you are not using the OpusFSX LWE then there will be no intelligent control of the DHM turbulence irrespective of whether it is configured as General DHM or within Live Camera views. In such cases, for now I would suggest you use the Addon menu to Disable DHM once you have climbed above a certain altitude, say 10,000 feet. Re-enable it once low down again. Of course, also make sure you select the 'Heavy Aircraft' type in the DHM dialog. I am looking to improve the turbulence control (which is really non-existent without the LWE active) in OpusFSI, if possible I will also upgrade OpusFSX as well. Then you will be able to leave it enabled. Stephen :-)
June 16, 201411 yr Commercial Member Hi Patco, I have posted a new OpusFSX Beta Version 3.49.5 this morning just in case you are using DHM without the OpusFSX LWE. This beta improves the DHM turbulence control when the LWE is not active, the control is still rather basic as there is no meteorological data to base the control on but it will prevent the turbulence being permanently on. Regards Stephen

I have to confess I have been using ASN for my weather and OPUS camera but I think I will go back to the OPUS weather engine for a while as I do prefer the live weather reports and grib data on the fly. I realy appreciate the up dates and class A customer responce. regards VLG Vic green
