Rain effect in FSX

Featured Replies

Hi  not sure if this should go in “hardware” or the FSX forum, so apologies if in wrong one.

When it rains in FSX I get a “warped” effect on the rain.  I am using nvidia surround x 3 monitors and I am using DX9.    The rain fills the middle monitor , but  depending on zoom level used it may only cover a third to a half of the outside monitors so can look a bit strange.

Just wondered if anyone has a solution for this?

Cheers

Steve

You are seeing the umbrella effect using the default textures. Not sure if any freeware textures fix this.

Thanks Webmaximus,  I think I did this before, but must of deleted my shaders at some point and I havent flown in rain for awhile.

No, sorry. Was quite some time since I got them myself.

Try a Google search and if you can't find them drop me a PM with your email address and I'll send them to you.

Ok thanks very much I am at work at present(on lunch!) , will search my PC when I get home, I may still have it saved in my downloads.  I am pretty sure I did fix it ages ago, but with some other tweeks etc probably un did  the  fix.

Thank you, it appears I have the correct Rain40.fsx in

E:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\ShadersHLSL\misc

However if I go to this folder

C:\Users\Steven\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX\Shaders\Misc

I do not have a file called

Rain40.fx_0x4700000000000000_0x0f

If I delete shaders and rebuild it dosnt appear?

Any ideas on this.

However the rain isnt "too bad" I may be getting confused with the actual virtual cockpit canopy/window ie as I zoom out

on the 3 monitors it is darker than the outside world. I get this when its not raining too, so I guess thats related, and its probably a vc issue on 3 monitors rather than the rain.

Cheers

Do appreciate your help but dont spend ages on it as I can live with it, as I say I may be getting confused with the VC

I just checked my own instructions and it said that all you need to do is copy the Rain40.fx into F:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\ShadersHLSL\misc or where ever you have FSX installed. I guess you also need to clear the shaders cache.

I switched using DX10 some time ago so I'm not using this fix anymore but instead I'm using a similar option that is included in Steve's DX10 Scenery Fixer.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help but I hope you find a way to fix your problem.
