Videocard upgrade or not

Featured Replies

Hi all..

Right now i have a PC with a Nvidia Geforce 640GT card..I am looking at a 750 GTX card to replace the other card..Can someone tell me what kind of performance upgrade i can expect if i buy the card?

Thanks

Given the 640 is an entry level card (low specs). You should see smoother running with the 750 which has a higher Core & Memory clock speed.. If you can afford it go for a model with 2GB of Vram rather than the standard 1GB. As a general rule of thumb CORE & MEMORY CLOCK SPEEDS are the important factors Bigger the numbers the better. Same also applies to the Vram more is better but can be a trade off against speed to keep prices reasonable.

If the Bank Balance can stand it you would do better with a 760 which gives more bang for buck.

Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

What's your monitor resolution? The upgrade will be huge regardless. You'll also be able to run some decent antialiasing that GT640 currently chokes at.

Be careful with getting anything older and/or faster like a GTX760 because your power supply may very well not be good enough for that. The 750 or 750Ti are modern Maxwell cards that draw very little power and you should be fine. Before purchasing one you'll need to check if it's the version with or without PCIe power connectors and if your PSU has one. It would help if you posted your complete specs
