A friend of mine, x B52 instructor, was on final in a Cherokee 6 for one of the 9's ( left or right), and someone cut into the traffic pattern. The only thing he could do was to circle around the water tower, at about tower height, till the coast was clear. Caused quite a stir in the control tower.
