July 26, 201411 yr Hi Guys, can somebody point me to a working afterburner effect for Dino Cattaneo's awesome (awesome) F-14 Tomcat? I know there is one for earlier versions, but I couldnt get it to work on this latest build. Anybody got any recommendations? ThanksEric AND
July 26, 201411 yr Administrators These are the effects that are used in my F-14 Tomcat. They reside in the [lights] section. fx_F14_Burn1 , fx_F14_Burn2 , fx_F14_Burnerflame , fx_F14_Burn1 , fx_F14_Burn2 , fx_F14_Burnerflame , fx_F14_Blueflame , fx_F14_Blueflame Charlie AronAVSIM Board of Directors-ADMIN/Moderator-RegistrarJust going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. July 26, 201411 yr Author Hmm. I have the very latest version of the F-14D installed and this is whats in the lights section of my aircraft.cfg These are apparently default values. Do you recall where you got the effects you have and if they work with this very latest build? Frankly I am a little surprised Dino didnt include AB effects with the aircraft. The F-14 has fairly spectacular burners. [LIGHTS] //Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing //Lights encoded into MDL file light.1 = 10, -13.50, 0.00, 4.00, fx_f14d_vclight_dino light.2 = 10, -19.00, 0.00, 4.00, fx_f14d_vclight_dino light.3 = 6, -15.00, 0.00, -1.20, fx_landing The effects section looks like this: [EFFECTS] wake=fx_wake water=fx_spray dirt=fx_tchdrt concrete=fx_sparks touchdown=fx_tchdwn_m, 1 EngineFire=fx_engfire_f18 vaportrail_l= fx_dummy // blocks FSX wingtip vapor vaportrail_r= fx_dummy // blocks FSX wingtip vapor AND
July 26, 201411 yr Administrators This is the version I'm using. http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/1776/fsx-grumman-f-14d-tomcat/ Charlie AronAVSIM Board of Directors-ADMIN/Moderator-RegistrarJust going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. July 26, 201411 yr Author Yep, I tested those. They dont work on Dino's latest model. Dino has the lights hard coded into the mdl file. I am really looking for a true effects file. AND
July 26, 201411 yr Administrators Where can I find this "Latest file"? Is it freeware or payware? Never mind, I found it. Looks like he is using textures instead of effects. If you look in the Texture folder, the first few deal with afterburner. Now I noticed something strange, at least with me, in the aircraft.cfg under [TurbineEngineData] the line Afterburner_Available=5. I always thought that was either 1 or 0 for yes and no. Try changing it to 1 and see if you get "Flame On" at 85% N1. I guess the Afterburner=5 is for a 5 stage afterburner. Sorry, another guess gone wrong! July 27, 201411 yr Author You are right. There are a lot of AB related textures. I did change the Afterburner_Available = 5 to 1. No difference. I am wondering if this is a bug now. Eric AND
July 28, 201411 yr Author The answer to this is that there are AB textures and an effect built into the model. You have to have your throttle sensitivity set above 100 to get the AB to engage properly though. Change this in the settings portion of FSX itself. AND
