August 22, 201411 yr Well it is that time again when it is time for a new computer and a reinstall of FSX. However due to job uncertainty, I have decided to upgrade my old computer in small bites instead of replacing it completely. What I am hoping for is some advice, guidance and warnings from the experts on this forum. I bought an I7 940 back when FSX was just coming out, so my computer has the following: Intel I7 940 6gb DDR3 1333 RAM MSI X58 Motherboard Liquid cooling for processer NVidia 560TI Video card A decent case, power supply, 2 HDD With Windows 7 Pro 64bit, FSX/P3D installed on second HDD. So I purchased a Intel I7 4790K, with ASUS Z97 mother board. I also have a 120gb SSD that I want to install as my primary drive for Windows 7. I'll reuse my Video Card, Memory, HDD's, liquid cooling, case and power supply. Then in the near future I plan to upgrade my system RAM, get a new Video Card (NVidea 780?) and maybe a new power supply to go with the video card. So again, any advice, guidance and warnings would be appreciated. I would appreciate suggestions about the type of RAM to upgrade to, is the 780 a good card for FSX and P3D, does my choice of processor and motherboard work well with FSX and is it difficult working with the SSD drive. Thanks in advance, Supernova48
August 22, 201411 yr I have the 4790k with the Z97-AR board and Im at 4.7ghz stable with liquid and see great frames in P3D v2.3....The 560ti will be holding you down quite a bit though...Im with a 780 and I even seek more power...Depending on what flying you do...The 780 is a great card though.... You will love it with the 4790k George Kyriazis | www.georgekonline.com
August 22, 201411 yr I have the 780 3GB coming from a 670TI. SO MUCH BETTER. I love it, plus, as I use other programs, it is pretty strong also and not a nail in the back like the Titan and other higher end ones are now. I give one +1 for the 780. As for the Ram, I am using 1866 and love it also. I have 32GB of it though, as I picked mine up on sale at NewEgg. I know it is overkill, but also future proof for a while at least. Good ram is a must for anything, not just FSX/P3D. William Sequeira
