September 15, 201411 yr New to the forums and to FSX. Looking forward to learn all I can about flight and navigation. Been doing a lot of IFR flights with the Cessna and going start doing some vfr flights to learn that a little more. Slowly learning SIDS and stars. Was also hoping somebody could help me out with some add-on aircraft. I downloaded the legacy from realair but that thing draws to much resources. I can't run Rex and I need the settings down to low to make it enjoyable to fly around. My system is an i5 and gtx 770 card and 8gigs ram. Wondering if there is any quality aircraft addons that I could use with my system running rex still. Will keep poking around the forums Thanks

September 15, 201411 yr Author Your system is fairly good, but about addon aircraft what is your main preference? Freeware, payware? Regional jet, medium haul, long range? Military? Either freeware or payware with a slight preference on freeware at the moment till I learn more and can benefit from the payware aircraft. I mostly want a full functioning Virtual cockpit with good textures. Right now I am interested in GA aircraft (large and small) and business Jets/props. Then transition into big commercial jets. I just don't want to have to turn scenery way down and lose the visual appeal just to fly the addon aircraft. I can make small adjustments like tone down AI aircraft ( play at 60% both air and ground now) but I do realize some sacrafices may have to be made. The way I am set up now that realair Legacy is unusable both on the ground and in the air.
September 16, 201411 yr Welcome. I see in another topic you have already had a CTD or freeze. High settings will cause this. I recommend the settings as shown in the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide located to the right of this forum under Hot Spots. You can play with those settings and add tweaks as soon as your FSX becomes stable. Personally I do not recommend tweaks especially if you have a computer built after the Sandy Bridge chipset. Some cause more problems than others. You can get very good graphics with the settings shown in the AVSIM Guide. You should also go to your profile and add your system specs (where it shows My PC). This way others can go to your profile and see what type of engine you are using to run FSX. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! Best regards, Thanks, I think I glanced at that before, but now that I have a little more experience with different settings I will go back through it and see what I can adjust. Those CTD's are frustrating. I do not get why they are becoming so frequent all of a sudden, had no issues for the first 2 weeks and made no adjustments to my settings till after I started getting them. But hopefully adjusting a few sliders will help. And I will be sure to add my system specs next time I am on my home computer. System Specs added to Profile
