April 21, 200521 yr I am trying to figure out how FS9 designates the gear on the CH Yoke by default. It has geer up on one button and gear down on another, but in the button list it don'es show the buttons assigned, and I see only a "gear up/down" setting, not the individual ones that it set as a default. I would also like to know if there is a "Control Wheel Steering" mode that I could assign. It would be nice as the Siminole I will be training in has the feature on it's autopilot.----------------------------------------------------------------John MorganReal World: KGEG, UND Aerospace Spokane Satillite, Private ASEL 141.2 hrs, 314 landings, 46 inst. apprs.Virtual: MSFS 2004"There is a feeling about an airport that no other piece of ground can have. April 22, 200521 yr Author Hi John,The default assignments for the yoke comes from the file "devices.cfg" in the main FS9 folder. For the CH yoke:(CH FLIGHT SIM YOKE USB)....BUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_04=GEAR_UPBUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_05=GEAR_DOWNUnfortunately, the "controls" you can select from the drop-down list under menu Options-Assignments in FS9, is only a subset of the whole FS9 controls list. But if you want, you can always assign ANY event, by manually editing the FS9.cfg file.Note that the default setting for the yoke LE version is GEAR_TOGGLE.For a full list of FS9 controls: download Pete Dowson's file "FS2004Controls" ( http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html )Cheers, Rob
April 22, 200521 yr Please tell us more. My js profiler allows keyboard strings to be assigned to directx buttons.Looking in the FS9.cfg under KEYBOARD MAIN heading I understand the value of the first digit sequence, but what is the second set for/do?Example:MINUS=189,8 The "8" is what I am wondering about. Many also have 10 or 11 or 9 or ..? What function are these values? Not the correct values for ctl or shift.?Thanks

April 25, 200521 yr Thanks for the info on the gear toggle, but do you know if there is a Control Wheel Steering (CWS) mode in FS9? It's like a temporary auto-pilot disconnect, as long as you are holding the CWS down, you can manually control the aircraft. As soon as you let go the auto-pilot takes control again. It's common in the cheaper auto-pilots and is often used for altitude changes with autopilots that don't have an altitude select, but just hold what ever altitude it levels out at.----------------------------------------------------------------John MorganReal World: KGEG, UND Aerospace Spokane Satillite, Private ASEL 141.2 hrs, 314 landings, 46 inst. apprs.Virtual: MSFS 2004"There is a feeling about an airport that no other piece of ground can have. April 25, 200521 yr Author Hi John,I'm sure none of the default FS9 aircraft (or default AP's) have this CWS mode; maybe some (payware) aircraft do.But if this CWS-mode is what you describe, it doesn't sound too difficult to create a gauge that temporarily disables the AP based on a certain criterium. I could have a go at it.But I would need some more real-world detail on how CWS works.Like:- Is CWS only used for alt changes ?- Is it used in combination with an AP ? if so, how ?- What's the criterium for CWS to be activated/deactivated ?Rob
April 25, 200521 yr John: I think there is one freeware aircraft that employs some type of CWS: http://bathursted.ccnb.nb.ca/fanda/There is a feature where one can turn up to 60 degrees ( I think ) while taxiing.Another feature in Fanda's Dash 8 which may or may not be related to this is the ability to press down a button on your controller to temporarily disengage the autopilot's lateral mode and re-engage it by releasing the button. Sorry I can't give more detail, as it has been some time since flying it. You may want to download it and see what you can find out.If I may, I would like to thank Rob for his contributions to us "gauge and controller challenged" simmers. Every article on controllers and every addition to this hobby he has released has been a gem. I am currently setting up the recent catapult gauge release on the Hornet, ready to fly my RealAir Spitfire. The landings should be a hoot! Thanks, Rob! April 25, 200521 yr John: Sorry, that link gets you to the "Fanda Fan" website. Just do a search for Frolov in the avsim library. "... speed ... is the only reason for flying." - Clyde V. Cessna
