April 24, 200521 yr Hello all :)I want to fiddle around with the default runway & taxiway textures located in FS9Texture.The files are small bitmaps - but I cannot open *some* of them. In Windows XP's thumbnail view these stubborn .bmps appear only as big icons and when I double-click them windows says "Drawing failed".I started MS Paint and dragged one of them in there but got an error message too.I dont understand...are they some kind of "special" bitmaps that cannot be viewed in ordinary software? Can someone advice...thanks loads :)
April 24, 200521 yr Nevin, the textures are inn DXT format, you'll need either DXTBmp http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/ or image tool to view and edit. them.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
April 24, 200521 yr Thank you Michael for that prompt response and for posting that link :)I had read a lot about DXT in various threads on Avsim and now I feel silly cuz it should have clicked when I encountered this problem http://www.nextgenerationrecords.co.uk/boa...con_redface.gifRight...Im off to tinker http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contri...y/corkysm20.gif
April 25, 200521 yr Commercial Member Howdy, actually, Martin Wright, author of DXTbmp, has another great tool on his site, named TView: http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/programs/tview.htmIt allows one to view many textures at once, which is particularly helpful when looking for or editing the default landclass texture sets.Cheers, Holger
April 25, 200521 yr Thanks Holger!!!! :)I shall check out that prog! I got a feeling that this is beyond me but the reason Im doing this is to see if I can create taxiway lights...hee hee. I want taxiway lights at all the default airports! I dont mean just the blue colours...I want to see the physical light itself ( like in many add-on airport scenerys!) Like this:http://www.oksolar.com/0_n_cart/images/11079_large.jpgRight now Im not sure if such things are created in DXT bitmaps or if they are in those .bgl files.....Ummm....BTW are you the same Holger whose responsible for that excellent freeware BC mesh!?:)
