Autogen Objects Appearing on Airports

Featured Replies

All of a sudden I'm getting trees and buildings being placed in the middle of runways and taxiways. It doesn't occur at every airport but it happens at enough of them that I'm sure it's not an isolated incident. It occurs at all autogen settings except 'none' and it seems to affect both add-on and default sceneries. I've reviewed most of the files I've installed over the past few days and can't seem to find any that would account for this. Would appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Hi,I had the same problem, the only way for me to get rid of the problem was to copy over the autogen file with the one that came with FS9.Mike

>Hi,>>I had the same problem, the only way for me to get rid of the>problem was to copy over the autogen file with the one that>came with FS9.>>>Mike>>Thanks for taking the time to respond Mike. I double-checked all the '.agn' files in my scenery/world/texture directory against my original installation disks and they all match exactly. I use two scenery.cfg files in my set-up, one for all of my North American scenery and one for the rest of the world and I use a different set of texture files for each one. The North American 'agn' files are the same as the default FS9 files and that's where I'm suddenly experiencing autogen problems. The 'agn' files I use for flying in Europe and elsewhere are not original FS9 files but I'm not experiencing autogen problems at any of those airports. Very strange.

I applied a user suggested fix for the seasonal CTD prior to 9.1's release. Basically what it did was "clear" an area around the airports from the underlying ground texture, the same way it works in FS2002. The fix included some bmp's that served as the airport textures in various areas. In the end, I liked the fix's changes to airport appearance so much that I kept it installed even after the 9.1 update.Search the forums, and I believe somewhere the fix will be posted. Logic makes it seem that this might work for fixing the problem you have, since the autogen is associated with the ground texture. If you give an example of a specific airport where you get this problem and a screenshot, I can load it up with the fix in place on my system and see if it takes care of the problem.-John

>Have you changed (or has something else changed) the>default.xml file in the Autogen folder?>>bones>http://fsaviation.net>http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpgThanks for the suggestion. I've been running FS9 without the default.xml file for some time because I understood it had a fairly significant negative affect on frame rates. Tonight I put the file back in but it didn't to change anything. I've still got trees and buildings all over my runways and taxiways.

Thanks for the response John. I tried several times to upload a screenshot from Binghamton Regional (KBGM). The file is under 150K and I receive a message saying the pic was uploaded to the AVSIM server ok. When I press the Post Message button, however, it tells me that I have to register to post to this forum (which I had already done). If you want to try it without the pic, I was taxiing to runway 34 and came across a whole row of trees that stretched all the way across the width of the taxiway. The trees appeared just before the taxiway intersection that precedes the threshold to runway 34.

so im not along.. I strangely had an FBO stuck in the middle of runway 27 at telluride the other day. Thats never happend to me before eathier.

I'm attaching a screenshot--this is what KBGM (nice little airport btw--flew out of there in 98) looks like on my system since I left the seasonal CTD fix applied, even after the 9.1 update. Notice that although the trees come close to the runways, they don't cross into airport "property" and the taxiways are clear. This is because the "fix" I applied overrides the underlying landclass, which is what generates the Autogen.Search the forums for "seasonal CTD" and "fix". In one of the threads a download is referenced, which is what I applied here. I ended up liking the look of the airports better--looks more like airports I've flown out of, and I've flown out of several hundred in real life.Regards,Johnhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/114427.jpg

Here's a followup Larry to my screenshot of yesterday. I found the thread which links to the file created that fixed the seasonal CTD. Here's the link:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...&mesg_id=164441Keep in mind this fix was originally for the seasonal CTD, and it changes airport appearance in the same way my screenshot shows, comparable to the way it appeared in FS2002. Some like that, some don't but overall I find the look a bit more realistic which is why I kept the fix installed.-John

Thanks for your post John. I've downloaded the files and will have a look at them over the weekend. I personally never experienced the seasonal CTD problem either before or after the Microsoft patch but you never know. I'm going to take a closer look at my landclass files as I seem to recall adding a few 'miscellaneous' ones over the past two weeks. As previously mentioned, I use a separate set of scenery.cfg and texture files for North America and 'everywhere else'. I also maintain separate landclass files. The fact that I'm not experiencing any problems flying in Europe using Lennart's textures suggests to me that the problem is unique to my North American setup. I'm using Microsoft's default files in my autogen folder and in my scenery/world/texture folder when I fly in North America. Unless there are other files in FS9 that affect autogen creation, that would seem to point to my North American landclass files. I use Justin Tyme's landclass files for the U.S. and have never experienced any problems with them in the past. I do occasionally add additional landclass textures for Canada, however, where I do a lot of my flying. Will let you know if I have any success.

For the benefit of anyone who may have been following this thread, I have resolved my problem with autogen objects appearing on runways and taxiways. I was using a very interesting add-on scenery called 'Canadian Road System'. Installation of this scenery required the removal of a number of default texture files from the sub-directories NAMC, NAME and NAMW located under FS9's scenery directory. As soon as I deactivated the Canadian Road System and copied the default files back from where they came, my autogen problems disappeared. This is not to suggest that there is anything wrong with the Canadian Road System. On my computer, however, it seemed to trigger an undesirable side effect. I intend to e-mail the author to see if he has any ideas or suggestions as I would really like to get this scenery to work on my system. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions.
