Military AI Package

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried Military AI traffic from MYtraffic yet? It is a stand alone package that does not require Mytraffic and looks interesting. Just wondering how well it works?http://www.mytraffic2004.com/

I just bought, downloaded and installed it. Today I won't have the time to check it out, but once I've toyed with it, I'll post my impressions here.Be well!Jaap Verduijn.

I purchased it and played with it a little last night. It was only about $25 US. It was neat seeing a lot of military aircraft, but the models and paints are not the best by any means. That said, I purchased it as a building block for Military Traffic. I used to use some of the PAI packages, and went with Ultimate Traffic when it came out for the shear breadth of what it covers, good documentation, and relatively easy to use interface. I over time have been updating models with Aardvark, FSPainter and so on as time and whim allow, still using UT to make the changes. I intend to do the same by using My traffic Military AI for my basic military AI tool. There is a lot of neat work being done by folks in making military AI, but it is still somewhat limited in scope and I don't have time to write flight plans myself. I now have lots of military AI all over the US with one install.A few comments- The models and textures are definably not state of the art. The words "US Airforce" on the side of the C-141's takes up most of the front fuselage, for example, and appear very pixilated. I will work over time replacing many of the models and paints.I have seen Navy and Airforce aircraft intermixed at bases that in reality are not. I understand real bases will get some transient traffic, but this goes way beyond that.I have seen aircraft that in reality are somewhat scarce rather common in Flight Simulator. I have seen E-3 AWACS on the ground at KSUX in Sioux City, IA and I think I saw a Navy Hawkeye on the ground at Offutt Airforce base in Nebraska.Looking at the aircraft config files, there are parking codes such as "combat ramp" and for airline it usually has the squadron code. That said, planes just seem to park wherever in the few bases I have checked. I have seen choppers, fighters, twin-turbo props and heavy transports all parked together and intermingled. I have not looked at the AFCADS, but I suspect they don't have specific parking info. I guess that is not a big surprise as Ultimate Traffic did not either. The new AFCADS add parking to allow the new traffic to show up.There are a lot of AFCADS installed, and I think this includes many airports that don't have military traffic, though I have not investigated this in detail yet. They installed in addition to any AFCAD I may have already had for the airport. This is a bummer as I have spent a lot of time replacing AFCADS, with some more accurate ones with parking codes like the Project AI ones, so I will have to spend some time weeding out the newest "replacements". Perhaps it is not practical, but I would have liked the installer give me the option of what to install. My Traffic Military installed many civilian aircraft such as Airbuses and Boeings, including airline paint jobs. If I wanted them, I would have purchased the full My Traffic package, and I don't think they even have flight plans in My Traffic Military. My initial impression is they are just taking up space in my aircraft folder. If so, they never should have been in the installer. The carriers are neat, with AI aircraft coming and going. I took off in a Cub, but I suspect I would need Arrestor Cables to do the same in a jet. The developer said on his forum that someone is working on making Arrestor Cables or the like work with the new carries. There are now choppers, both Airforce and Navy. I have seen some in flight, but have not watched to see how they land or takeoff.I guess I got what I expected when I purchased it. It is a great way to get a lot of the world covered now, and I can make it better over time with some work. That said, this package will not be for everyone, especially the rivet counters and purists.Tony

Just a little comment, but if you want an arrestor wire / catapault package that will work with any carrier, try 3Wire from this (or most others) site. You'll have to set up the trap zone, which takes about two minutes, but after you've done that, it works superbly. Worth looking at. :-)Cheers.Ian P.

Does anyone know if you can you tank with the KC-135's? What kind of flightplans are these guys flying, using PAI and TTools you can only specify a departure, destination, and another destination. I didn't know if it was possible to implement E-3 orbits and Tanker tracks. How about the fighters, do they do their training fights. If anyone knows, please reply here. Thanks, jeff usaf

Jeff,I hope to spend some more time getting into it this evening. It is my understanding the flights are not based on any real schedule or mission. I'm not sure the assignments are based on any actual squadron assignments. It is just AI activity. The KC135's fly just like any other AI plane. I suppose you could chase one down and fly formation with it. Lago did have a tanker module that was kind-of cool in their Tornado and F-16 packages. It gives you a KC10 or the British jet tanker that I can't remember the name of off-hand. That module allows you to hook up. Lago's KC10 uses the boom, while British plane uses the towed drogue'sTony
