June 4, 200521 yr Hi Guys I am buying a new computer and want to know the best way to install my current FS9 onto the new system. My FS9 folder is now over 12Gigs and has a combination of payware and freeware addon aircraft and all of the other bits and pieces we all collect over time.Do I have to reinstall everything individually or can I just install FS9 then the FS9 patch and simply copy my aircraft folder, effects folder, gauges folder etc into the new installation from my old computer? Also I don't have XP Service Pack2 on my old computer but it will be preinstalled on the new one, will that cause problems? (I know there was a SP2 thread in the forum but couldn't find it.)Many thanks for your help,Gerry
June 4, 200521 yr U may have to reinstall a lot of your payware due to the way it installs. What I would do is connect both together 2 nec cards or if u have a friend with a portable large HDD to put the old FS9 on and copy the fs9 folder across to the new compt. If your new computer has no guarantee and u can do this then take the disc out of the old one and put it in the new one and transfer that way. You can run fs9 from that folder but some software will not run - the reg entries will be missing - u can put them in the registry yourself but if u do not want to mess with the reg then do the reinstall. If the entries are not in the reg then anything u buy in the future may not load because certain software looks there and if the fs9 entries are missing then they may not load. I would reinstall fs9 - upgrade - then reinstall the payware software again - its a long job. When u have taken what u want from the old fs9 folder -this can be weeks depending on what u want etc then erase it.Don't foget to copy the FS9 config folder and the flight simulation files folder etc Other people will give u other ideas and there are better - so I may learn something. Another thing I did was to partition my 80 gig and use one partition for FS9 and then everything is in one place for my sim. U could buy another disc - u can do it various ways and a lot depends on your circumstances - money, time etcGood luck - its not that bad. :-) :D
June 5, 200521 yr Hi there,If you want your 12GB FS9 on your new HD I sugest you use an Image creator of your old HD like i.e. 'Norton Ghost' or 'Alchool 120%' to creat an exact image of all the software you have on your previous HD. Then you can reinstall portion or all of that software including the O.S., back to the new computer, not only FS9 but also other programs that you find useful to use on the new compt. When reinstalling software the Regkeys will be also reinstalled. And all the pertaining info will be available on the new machine without the assle of reinstaling each add-on one by one again. You will require an external HD or if u can install a 2nd internal HD on the new machine you can skip the external, to have the resulting Image stored prior to deploy the software to the new 'C:' HD.RegardsAntonio Antonio Lapa Gomes LPPT - LIS / PORTUGAL http://www.airsimmer.com/pic/et_1.png
June 5, 200521 yr What I did was to reinstall FS9 from the CD's, run the FS9.1 update and then copy over directories like scenery, aircraft, effects,etc.. The only bad part about that is payware and the hoops you have to jump through to install the payware stuff you purchased. I was told at the time, that copying the entire FS9 directory had been tried by a few people and always seemed to cause problems due to the registry entries, etc...
