Reality XP Gauges

Featured Replies

I have recently started flying on VATSIM alot...And purchased a couple of extra planes.. Yes I am amongst the rest of the addicts I admit it..Well I am interested in upgrading my Avionics from Reality XP especially for my new PC-12I was wondering which would be better as far as detail letting me know where the ARSA'S are etc..The Apollo Or the Garmin 430/530I like to fly IFR alot... I am gonna step off and on the subject here..But I need something to help me with my navs and plotting my course flight sim does desent.. But I don't know when I am in their service area sometime and was wondering if the GPS would show that..Just trying to make the whole IFR and flight planning navagation a little easier.. Thanks All,

The Apollo is either a VFR-only or perhaps an IFR enroute-only GPS (I'm not sure which) - it does not have any instrument approach capability, which the GarminXP units do. I recommend either the 430XP or 530XP.Dave Blevins

I have the Apollo 50 unit which does well enroute. I use it as RNAV with no problems. I do not think it is fine enough nor has the LOC in its database for the localizer portion of the approach although in its shortest range setting (5 nm) the runways are shown. From what I've read about the default 500 there is some approach guidance. Displayed but not controlled are stored missed approach procedures in addition to the approach entry.I suggest you go to the Reality-XP web site (www.reality-xp.com), read the product details, download the user manual, and if your questions are not answered follow the link to their support forum and ask your remaining questions. If you intend to use any of their Jetline series which includes an EHSI, I can tell you the Apollo and Garmin GPSs link to the EHSI at least in the JL4 showing the plan and waypoints, great when these MFDs are in ARC mode. What I like about the Apollo is that it can give a very clear readout (it is a bright clear monocolor yellow on black) occupying a minimal area of panel real estate therefore not requiring the use of a pop-up covering your view.
