June 18, 200520 yr My computer is starting to get some very bad windows rot. I've done a defrag, virus scan, various spyware programs, etc, but it's still nowhere as good as it used to be. Therefore, I am going to do a complete reformat. The only thing I am worried about though is completely losing my Flight Simulator 2002 game, and more importantly, losing the years of modifications, model additions, AI additions, and everything else that I have added to it. There is simply no way that I could start from scratch. I wanted to know if there was any way that I could package my flight sim game the way it is now, burn it to a DVD, reformat and reinstall Flight Sim 2002, and then unpackage the game, thereby saving all of my modifications and making it seem like there was no reformat at all.
June 18, 200520 yr You didn't say if error checked your volume, did you? "C" drive - properties - tools - error checking. Make sure you have both boxes checked to correct errors.
June 19, 200520 yr What I have done in the past with FS2002 is this. Backup your entire installation of FS to another drive if you can. After you have rebuilt your system, install a fresh copy of FS02. Then simply copy the old backup right on top of the new install. You may have to reinstall some payware depending on whether or not it uses its own registry keys. But it should take care of most of your textures and planes and scenery etc. Hope this helps...Dave---------------------------------------------------System Specs:Athlon64 3500+ ClawHammer @ 2.3mhzECS NForce4 A-939 Mobo (1g FSB)2 Gigs OCZ Performance PC3200 Ram (Dual Channel)ATI Radeon X800Pro PCI-E 256MB (Catalyst 5.6 @ 520/540)SoundBlaster Live 24bitSaitek Cyborg EvoWinXP SP1
June 19, 200520 yr Author That's exactly what I've been doing with FS2002 before, and FS9 now.... Copy entire fs9 directory elsewhere, format, reinstall windows, install FS9, install payware aircraft, copy entire fs9 directory back to original spot (exact same spot as before). Haven't had any problems.. :) Declared weather: FSX: ASN / FS9: ASE
