March 28, 201511 yr Greetings, Everyone, I would like to have three versions of the same airplane, in this case, the S550, but I’m having trouble figuring out how to do this. I would like one of the default version, one with Bert Pieke’s mods, and one having the ISG mod by JanekBin. I experimented by creating a duplicate folder and renaming it to indicate Bert’s GTN750 mod. The default folder is named “Carenado S550_Citation II,” and I named the second folder “Carenado S550_Citation II _GTN750.”Then in the aircraft.cfg I renamed all the aircraft titles to reflect the mod, e.g.,“[fltsim.1]title=Carenado S550 Citation II 1_GTN750.” What I was hoping was that the modification name would show up in the aircraft selection window, but it doesn’t. Now I have, for example, two Citations with the same name and registration, N6863. As far as I can tell, the second version with the mod seems to work well, but you can imagine, I’m sure, the confusion when it comes to figuring out which plane you are selecting if they all have the same name, especially if you have three versions.I have a feeling that the solution is simple; I’m just not knowledgeable enough to know what that might be.Any ideas, anyone? Thanks, Tom
March 29, 201511 yr I believe you can do it all within one instance by setting up different panel names in the same aircraft folder. Within the aircraft.cfg file you can name panel=panel.bert in a particular aircraft description. Then just place the different panel folders in the same aircraft folder. Make sense?
March 29, 201511 yr Silverheel2's suggestion above is the best way to go about doing what you want to do; however if you prefer to have two completely separate aircraft folders, to distinguish the entries in the selection menu you also have to change the "ui_type" and "ui_variation" entries in aircraft.cfg.
March 30, 201511 yr Author @Silverheel 2. I like the idea of putting everything in one aircraft folder. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it work. I named Burt's panel "Panel.GTN750," and in the aircraft config file I created a 7th aircraft with the same registration number as the second one, changing the title slightly so FSX would accept it. Under panel, I entered "panel=panel.GTN750." For ui variation I entered "ui_variation=N6863_GTN750." After starting FSX, the plane didn't show up in the selection window. I then went back to creating a completely separate aircraft folder. The only change I made to each aircraft in the config file was ui_variation=[Registration number]_GTN750. Now when I open the selection window I see, for example, "Citation II N6863_GTN750. The default plane also shows up as "Citation II N6863." Anyway, you both contributed to solving my problem. I guess this method will do for me, even though it takes up more drive space. Thanks to both of you for helping me out. Regards, Tom
March 30, 201511 yr You have to put "panel=GTN750" not "panel=panel.GTN750" in the aircraft.cfg for the aircraft to access the folder "panel.GTN750" (hope I've explained it well).
April 2, 201511 yr Author @Izamm, Doh, I feel really dumb! This is my first attempt to modify a panel, but I should have realized you just put the name of the panel variation after the dot, just as you put in the texture variation name which comes after the dot, which I have done quit a few times. Good news is that the single folder option works just as I wanted. Now to contact JanekBin and ask for his mod. Really appreciate your help, guys. Regards, Tom
