June 25, 200520 yr Hi Gang. :-waveI wondered if anyone is having any problems with FS9,:( I am talking about my recent issues that seem to have started just today?I have not added, or removed anything as such, but now all of a sudden today I am getting FS9 just bumming out to the desktop, and with no warning or reason whatsoever that I can think of.eg, I was not running anything else, no ASV or whatever, my specs are in my sig, I'm on FS9.1, and have been for a while, all my drivers are up to date, I even re-installed the CAT's in case it might have been that, but no joy.it seems to be somewhat random as to how long before it crashes, one time it was after about 25 Min's, then the last flight was only 10 Min's before it went.it doesn't come up with any error message, or the usual FS9 has to close blah blah. it literally vanishes without a trace, and I'm sitting there looking at the desktop and wondering what just happened !any suggestions or ideas would be most welcome guy's. it reminds me of the CTD's we used to get, or, are they back ! !:-eekthanksSteve.
June 25, 200520 yr check for duplicate afcad files, they are somtimes causing ctds.use scanafd.zip available from the library!
June 25, 200520 yr I just finished struggling with the same problem - mine was caused evidently by cloud textures - I had installed ActiveSky version V and also Flight Environment - after disabling them I was able to get FS9 going again. I then reinstalled ActiveSky V and the Flight Environment textures and things seem to be working smoothly again. Fortunately I didn't go the route of completely removing and reinstalling the entire program, so I saved a considerable amount of effort by doing this.My own troubleshooting procedure now is to first disable add-on scenery, then clouds, then systematically remove aircraft if FS continues to crash. Then, after that fails to stabilize/identify the problem, then reinstall, but only as a very last resort.I hope my own experience my be of benefit to you! Good luck
June 26, 200520 yr Hi Guy's,thanks for the suggestions, well, I found a duplicate afcad, and removed it, I also refrained from using my profile in the Saitek X52 software, just in case, but, no closures later yesterday, so fingers crossed.I will be mentioning to the MS guy's at the AFC Convention in a few weeks time about these things, and the dreaded g2d.dll that a lot of people have been plagued with.what I would like to see implemented in more of the MS products is a greater explanation of the fault, so you can actually fix it, or know more easily where to look.I', beginning to think that some of the programmers do actually practise Vague.we need more of a clue as to where the blinking problem comes from, as it is, when there is an issue, you more or less take a shot in the dark ! !Steve, edit, all my clouds and textures etc have remained the same for a while now, so I could rule those out I think.

June 27, 200520 yr Dave T,Hi, I do defrag every other day, and, I use Executive Software Diskeeper Pro, which is fantastic, did you know for example, that in Win XP either home or pro, we are actually using a cut-down version of that program, which is made and sold under licence to MS from them, so I'm using the full blown version, it lets you do loads of things such as set a boot time defrag too, even before Win has a chance to fire up, so that it does it properly.just some info for you.I haven't had another disappearing act from FS9 yet, but, I will keep you all informed as to when or if it happens again.thanks anyway again guy's.Steve,PS I like the web site Dave, very nice. I have added it to my favourites, will you or any of the guy's be attending the IFC this year on the 9/10th of July at Blackpool !http://www.ifcblackpool.com/
June 28, 200520 yr Author Hi Steve,Yes I have mine running on 'Set it and forget'. An absolutely brilliant program. It takes just 3 minutes to defrag my 80g HDD!As for FSUG which I belong to the South West section the answer is, no I shan't be there but yes the 'FSUG' stand wiil be there.I prefer to wait for the other show that this year takes place in Bristol, a lot nearer for me.Dave T. .........On the lovely warm Devon Riviera and active 'FlightSim User's Group' member at http://www.flightsimgrpuk.free-online.co.uk/ Dave Taylor
