Editing MDL Files?

Featured Replies

Good evening everyone. I was wondering what is the best application to open up an MDL.CFG file. I wanted to experiment with a few AC I have issues with. When I use Notepad, or Wordpad it looks like Encrypted code. See below. Is this right? Is there a special program needed to open it up so I can read it? I work with CFG panel files alot and this has me stumped. It kind of looks like this with thousands of lines, and once in a while I see a word, otherwise I don't know where to start... could this be what c++ looks like? If this is, the designers that write this code are amazing people.)&)*%)$GSL:HFP*+*#%+^%_*_*%*@^&*(%^(*)"KJY"ILIUuhpui'f**&^_()(_^%$O Thanks for any help with this. Best regards, Jeff

I've heard you can use a hex editor to remove VCs from planes, but you'd need the original FSDS or GMax source files to make any real modifications.

Hello, Thanks for your reply. What I was trying to do is alter things like prop animation and such. I have an aircraft that has an issue, and I wanted to see if the Prop animation was the cause of it. From what you said, I can't use notepad like the other cfg files use. Do you know where I can get such a program at? If not, I will throw in the towel. Thanks for your time. Best regards, Jeff

However, even if you had either of those programs, you'd still need the original source files from the plane's designer to make any changes. You can't just edit the MDL file at all.

Hey guys, Thanks for the info. At this point I will stick to video production and my pilot studies, and leave the other stuff for the designers. Even when I played with numbers in the panel cfg files, I never was 100% sure of what the result would be until I opened the AC and closed it serveral times before I got it right. Thanks again.Best regards, Jeff
