SIMStarter with complex airplanes

Featured Replies

Hello.  I've been checking out this application and wondering something.

I pretty much fly only 4 different airplanes.  The PMDG 737NGX, Aerosoft Airbus X, Majestic Q400 or the PMDG 777.  I also never use the "startup screen" in flight sim(FSX or now P3D).  When I launch the sim, I start my next flight from the last airport I arrived at previously.  I also always do a reboot in between flights too.  So, my default flight is always set to Previous Flight.

I'm curious as to how this would work with SimStarter if I were to say fly the NGX into an airport.  Park, shutdown.  Close the sim.  Then decide I want to the next leg to be in the Aerosoft Airbus X.  Can SimStarter set my aircraft to be a certain livery of the Airbus X and load it up ok on next launch without me doing anything else in sim prior to flight(i.e. "Select Vehicle" before flying)?  The reason I ask is that with these complex aircraft that have their own initialization that needs to be done and panel state loading, etc, I'm curious if it's possible to launch these addons correctly in this manner?  I also have separate button assignments and FSUIPC.ini files that I use for each of these aircraft.  I'm thinking here I can make use of the copy/rename file start manager stuff to handle this, right?

What I currently do now is launch the sim.  Switch my plane.  Load the keyboard/button assignments for whatever aircraft.  Close the sim.  Set up whatever LOD, autogen settings I want directly in prepar3d.cfg.  Copy over my FSUIPC.ini file for the aircraft I will be using next flight and then finally, do flight planning and launch the sim ready to go on its next leg.  This is somewhat of a pain but it works and I have never had issues with any aircraft because it didn't initialize correctly or something.

So, is there anyone else out there that does similar to what I'm looking to do here?  Can SimStarter save me the extra launches of the sim just to switch airplanes like I'm doing now?

I hope this makes sense and I've explained my scenario well enough.  If not, please feel free to ask for clarification.

Thanks in advance for any help/answers.

Regards,

That was exacly the use case to develop SIMstarter.

Try it out! ;O)

Well, I have to have done something wrong because it did not do well for me.  Completed a flight w/ Majestic Dash 8.  Shutdown P3D and restarted my pc like I do between every flight.  Next flight I tried switching right to the PMDG NGX.  That didn't work.  P3D loaded fine but the plane literally would not move.  I was stuck.  Full Throttle, GSX pushback, FS2Crew pushback, nothing.  Wheels spin like I'm moving, I can actually take off - albeit straight up.  But the aircraft does not leave it's spot on the earth.  Stays in the exact same position no matter what.  So, that ended my trial of SimStarter unless someone has way more detailed instructions on all what needs to happen to literally switch between these complex add ons between each flight.

Today, can't say SimStarter was the problem because I haven't used it now in a week or so, same thing happened.  Could not get the Airbus X to move, no matter what.  Taxi, pushback, full throttle, nothing.  Have to once again completely reset the flight, delete my Previous Flight files and start all over.

I don't know if this is SimStarter's fault but I NEVER had this situation happen prior to installing it and letting this manage my start up state.

Hi Kevin,

thank you for your testing. It would be great if you could send me a copy of your zipped ",\Userprofiles\" folder of SIMstarter.

SIMstarter is used by many thousends of users that are using complex aircrafts as well. Also from the beta team I have never heard of such a problem (would for sure not means that it does not exisit). Maybe there is a setting missing or something like that?!

If you are willing to continue your test, please send me the zipped folder. ;O)

Happy landings!
