I do realize that I'm posting in a new members area, but it seemed the most relevant place for this question:

 

Is it possible to ignore an individual topic or thread?

 

On my "Topics I've participated in:" area, a particular topic in which yes, sadly, I have participated in keeps rising to the top like the after effects of a bad meal. Each time it does so, I end up feeling inclined to look at the new posts in this topic.  And then I end up starting to reply; elegantly choosing words and phrases, trying to get my point across without being blunt or rude, trying to share my opinion without seeming to be a complete and utter (insert word here).

 

Each time, I realize after about 15 minutes spent writing, that just because I hold an opinion, does not necessarily mean I should share it.  My views in the topic are already known and well expressed (to me) and I need not stoke the fires of further debate. So I press delete (or more likely, close the browser window).  And sigh, because I've now wasted another small portion of my afternoon that would be better spent doing constructive stuff like finishing my repaints for the A2A 182, or the DA20, or working on my latest scenery project, or finishing that 'period' moving map I created for the HMS Bounty... stuff like that.

 

So, is it possible to 'ignore' a topic, so that it may disappear off of my lists, never to be seen again by me?

 

Or is it my punishment, or karma if you will, that I should pay for my sins of posting in said topic by having to see it, refreshed and in bold type, tempting and taunting me by the hour?

 

If so... new users beware.  Be careful in what you post, it will indeed haunt you....

I've often wondered this too.   But I can't see that it's possible from looking at the available forum features.

Yes, you can follow a topic for forum by clicking on "Follow this Topic or Follow this Forum in the upper right corner of the forum/topic.  If you no longer want to follow that topic or forum, simply go back to that forum or topic and click "Unfollow this forum or topic" as appropriate.

Jim, as you note, there is functionality for following (and un-following) a topic, but I was referring to a topic that I've posted in and which remains popular, staying at the top of the "Topics you've recently posted in" box.  It would of course seem that you either have to wait for the topic to cool down (or get locked) so that it 'falls' out of that list on it's own.  Alternatively, as I eloquently tried to explain, one should be wise about the topics that they post in.  ^_^
