July 12, 200520 yr I realize this sounds crazy coming from someone who as been flight simming for over 15 years, but here it goes. My FS9 programs and system works well considering the problems we all run into from time to time. I've rarely posted over the last 10 years or so, because I always somehow figured out my FS problems by reading new and old posts, which seems to sooner or later answer all my questions. However, a while back I downloaded Aeroworx's African scenery package(SAScenerySM)with several of the major South African airports and after following the author's install instructions to the letter I could go to these South African site locations (beautiful scenery)but, because it was daytime here in the US, it was night time in Africa. So I changed the location FS9 time to daytime to see the scenery better. FS9 immediately closed and booted me back to my Windows screen??? Not a problem you say.....just wait until it's night time here and then go to the scenery site when it's day time there....didn't work program booted me out back to my windows screen immediately. I tried numerious times with no luck and even contacted the scenery authors(Aeroworx)directly for guidiance. They offerred several suggestions but, nothing would work.To make a long story short I finally gave up after several weeks of trying to correct this strange action. I had no problems going to South Africa and flying when its nightime there, but if it's during their daytime hours, the screnery simply will not run and boots me out back to my Windows screen. I even changed FS9 from reading my system clock thinking that might be the problem....didn't work. Strange, huh.Since then I must have downloaded and installed over 20+ different sceneries, including Misty Fjord (Alaska) and others which have run fine and have had no problem changing time zones or seasons. I let the SAScenery program go(uninstalled it)figuring "this will probably never, ever happen again". Well recently I downloaded St. Bart 2004 (Caribean)from Avsim and installed the program. You guessed it. The scenery runs fine when it's night time here(same time zone I'm in I believe)but if it's daytime the program immediately boots me out and back to the windows screen. Thought I check with my fellow simmer's to see if anyone has ever experience such a crazy thing, or might be able to give me a clue what I'm doing that would cause this strange behavior, before I give up completly and declare myself and system "Crazy".I guess I could just goto these sites and fly only at night, but then I won't get to see all the beautiful South African landscape, terrain, etc. HELP.
July 12, 200520 yr Author You are not crazy. I have the same issues with the SAS scenery, namely Johannesburg.I believe it's some kind of texture issue.
July 12, 200520 yr Commercial Member Howdy, the first thing to assume in these cases is either an install error or some problem with your own setup. If the scenery add-ons themselves were to blame they probably would not be available for download anymore (plus, I've been using both of those add-ons for many months now without any problems). If the same problem occurs with different add-ons then my bet is always on the default landclass and vector (roads, streams, etc.) textures. Many people use replacement versions of these textures and some of those packages include incorrect texture formats or incomplete sets (daytime or seasonal) that will only pop up as issues if a specific scenery is calling these textures (for example, the default dirt road textures are not used at all in the sim out-of-the-box but some add-ons use them extensively). My suggestion: rename your current FS9SceneryWorldtexture folder to "texture.previous" to disable it then load the original version from FS9 disk 4 and try your problem areas with that texture folder instead. If the scenery works as intended you know you have bad or missing apples in that texture folder of yours and can start the hunt for them or keep the default textures instead. The same issue can occur with the FS9Texture folder but it's less likely because landclass and vector textures are all in SceneryWorldtexture.Good luck!Cheers, Holger
July 12, 200520 yr Author Hmmm... could be. I use FScene Winter textures for Africa currently. That could be the reason.
July 13, 200520 yr Thanks Holger,I never would have thought of this angle. I'll give it a shot tonight and let you know how I made out.Appreciate your assistance.AndiB
July 14, 200520 yr Hi Holger or anybody else,Well, I guess its me......I am crazy.I disabled my FS9 Scenery/World/Textures file as suggested and reloaded the World/Textures file from the original FS9 disk 4, then ran the sceneries I am experiencing problems with as note in my original post, SAScenerySM, Fisantekraal (So.Africa)and St. Bart2(Caribean).The SAScenerySM and Fisantekraal sceneries both ran fine under night time modes, but when changed to day time mode or I started them under day time mode they aborted and booted me immediately back to my Windows screen.Strangley St. Barth2, which had previously performed exactly like SAS and Fisantekraal allowed me to change the scenery time to day time and I was able to fly? Any other thoughts on what may be causing this problem.Hey Farlis, did you try the file change and if so, how did you make out?AndiB
July 14, 200520 yr Author I didn't try it out yet. And I somehow doubt I will get different results. I have seen older threads about this problem with the SASceneries but couldn't find a solution to the problems.
