July 2, 200421 yr Hi all, I have a question about the main landing gear on Boeing's 737 aircraft. Why did Boeing design the plane without landing gear doors on the main wheels? This kinda dawned on my yesturday look at photos of 737.Thanks,Bill Asus Tuf Gaming Plus B550 - Ryzen 7 5800X3D - Asus GeForce 4080 RTX OC Edition - 64GB DDR4 (3600Mhz) - EVGA 850W Power Supply - 2X 1 TB NVME PCIE gen 4 - Windows 11 (25H2)
July 2, 200421 yr Cos they don't need them. There's a door that cover the pylons, but the outside edge of the tyres, plus the smooth flat hubcap, makes the outside surface of the wheel well when the gear is up. The outside of the tires acually mates with a virtually airtight seal around the well to act as a door.Tha advantage is that the wheel has to go up several inches less than if it had to make room for a regular door.Richard
