July 17, 200520 yr Hi,Lately, I've been experiencing some serious problems with the Flight Simulator(FS9). It's been crashing constantly and I checked everywhere to find the cause for the problem with the help of some of the members here at avsim. My computer is not overclocked, the temperature is fine, and there's no virus. So, eventually, I decided to start from scratch and ended up re-installing the program and pretty much left it with the defaults. However, it still crashes everytime I fly. In addition, the funny thing is that the other day, I noticed it reset all the settings (display, weather, air traffic, etc.) I know it's just the display resolution setting but now it looks kind of like when you're in Safe Mode. Interestingly enough, on the left side where it lists frequently used programs, it shows FS icon and next to it, it says "Safe Mode". It never says "Flight Simulator 2004" but I don't think that's a big deal. Perhaps it was not properly installed? From what I can see, everything seems to be installed perfectly...it's just that it crashes when playing. Has anybody gone through a similar experience? Maybe I should install it again? As far as crashing, I suspect it's my video card overheating(it's really hot in SoCal these days). I do turn up the A/C but doesn't seem to help. Any help greatly appreciated! :-)
July 18, 200520 yr Hi Alexis,Please sign your post's as per forum requirements?I hade a similar problem a while ago.On carrying out a 'search' for my FS9.cfg, I noticed that there was more than one!If, this is your problem I don't need to tell you what to do?Just delete the lot, and allow FS9 to rewrite it again on start up.I'm not suggesting that this is your problem but, it can happen?Dave T. .........On the lovely warm Devon Riviera and active 'FlightSim User's Group' member at http://www.flightsimgrpuk.free-online.co.uk/ Dave Taylor
July 18, 200520 yr >>Please sign your post's as per forum requirements?>Where does the rules/requirements say that?Anyway, what business is it of yours? Gerry Howard
July 19, 200520 yr Oh, sorry. I wasn't aware of that rule. And thanks, Dave. I'll try that and see if it'd help. I just played it the other day and quite surprisingly, I was able to complete a 10 hour flight without any crashes. Granted I simulated(16x) the flight. But still, it was a good 30-40 minute flight. :) Also, the temp in my room was pretty cool...definitely cooler than the previous days. It looks more and more like my video card overheating that's causing the problems. :DRegards,Alexis
