How to avoid Flight Centers w/o cancelling your IFR flight plan ?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how to tweak FS9 so as to avoid the annoying Flight Centers constantly coming on without cancelling your IFR flight plan?I read somewhere that this could be done. I was unable to connect to the web site that had this info.ThanksStanner

Hi Stanner, when you get handed off from one controller to another, acknowledge the handover but do not contact the new controller. This way you can leave your computer or use time acceleration and not get your IFR flight plan cancelled. Just recontact ATC when you want to pick up your flight and you will automatically connected to the correct controller. One slight caveat to this, it's best to be at your cruising alt before dropping out or the new controller will aks you to continue your climb which can cause problems if you are near your destination airport. Hope this is what you were after.Steve

One wee sidenote as I think others have more than covered the answer to your question. After a long delay where you have covered a lot of territory, when you make contact again, ATC will give you a progression of commands, usually telling you to turn to a heading that may be 180 degrees from your flight plan. They will probably be repeated several times. Ignore them until eventually you will get a command that matches your current heading (assuming you on on course) to which all you need to do is acknowledge the communication.Hope this helps:RTH

Gentlemen,Thank you.Stanner
